Hi, I want to start an online store. I have no Idea where to start. I have used godaddy but they do not seem to be very high quality. What would you guys recomend for hosting and setting something like this up. are there store templates that I can use? If so how do I put them on the site? I am a newbie and just have no idea. If anyone can give me some good ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

zencart and oscommerce are two of the more popular applications people use for a store, and they're free. You should be able to both free and paid templates for these.

As for hosting, Godaddy would indeed be a bad choice for anything like this, as their servers are too slow to run applications, not to mention a store, which should definitely run fast. You don't want to lose impulse buyers because pages take too long to load, and you don't want any other type of customer to get annoyed either.

I agree with ldcdc. Zen Cart and OScommerce is the most popular software for starting an online store. Once the software is installed you will have a fully functional online store. Once installed you are free to download a paid or free template/theme to change the design of your online store.

I also agree that Godaddy is a very bad choice for hosting. Not only are their servers slow but they also have an average response time of 6 hours, which is terrible.

Well, you can go with cpanel hosting packages which comes with Fantastico addon tool using which you can install required shopping cart and host online shoppee..
Make sure you go with manage hosting service provider. let me know your hosting requirements i may help you to choose one !

i think u can make the structure with some CMS like joomla and then integrate ZENcart ecommerce tools with them..works great..and the try to choose prof looking template..

Good idea. However in this case you will need to hire someone for this job.

I suppose you need first of all decide which web application you are going to use. Then search for the web hosting according to that.
