What are your thoughts on .online domains?
It's very generic and not as ugly as .xyz for example, so that's a plus - but perhaps a little too long to have any success...
Plus most good names are either unavailable or premium...

I did not know, sorry mate. 1and1 offers 5 dollar transfers (see my link). These are not promos, no codes required.

Yes, just chatted to them, see screenshot attached, they confirmed, it's a five dollar transfer

Pityingly, this is not for me, I cannot pay on their US website, it redirects me to the British one at checkout, We have sixteen pounds plus VAT for transferring .ONLINEs to them. That's twenty American, to the best of my belief :)

I appreciate the heads up for sure. but there are a lot of horror stories around here regarding 1&1 and it's not a popular company to work with. Maybe things have changed there, but I'm willing to wait for a comparable transfer deal elsewhere. :)

Yes, yes, totally agree about 1and1. Moreover, I am a honourable member of the Victims Club :) There is a solution in regards to 1and1, I do normally cancel all services the same day (letting domains 'to expire' at the end of billing cycle), cancel paypal pre-approved payments, and transfer out immediately after a sixty day term :)

Added Rennrad.online
I'm still looking for a solid explanation as to why .online are so popular in Germany...

Online is a word that is commonly used in Germany. Same story as the Netherlands, where there is also an above average registration of .online domains.

The word is often used for online services. One of the websites of my company ( in the Netherlands) renders a service to clients in a online variant. And for more than 10 years this is presented to clients with a "servicename-online.nl" website. Then its a small step to servicename.online or productname.online. I think its something you understand better if you speak the language fluently....

Thanks for the explanation @Rainmaker-NL.

That's for sure!

And brandname.online?
Most names being used are productname.online or service.online, much less for brandnames.

.online in the Netherlands (and Germany) generally works well with things like
divorce.online
furniture.online
bible.online
tablets.online
etc etc
(and then of course the Dutch/Germans names).

Good thing is most of the Dutch/German names weren't premium priced.

Great information, ta!

Indeed! This is one of the reasons why I hunt for relevant German.online (and perhaps Dutch.online now). However, as you said, it is difficult for someone who doesn't speak the language. I make mistakes.

Huge news for .online. To be #1 in usage after 14 months is very promising! Of course, nothing surprising for many of us. It wasn't hard to see that .online has more to offer than most new gtld's.

Full steam ahead!

Tomorrow's update will show that .ONLINE has overtaken .VIP for the 8th spot in overall ngtld registrations.

Looks to me that .VIP & .BID, who somehow remind me of Ren & Stimpy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101178/), are also keeping a close eye to .Online. Last weekend .VIP felt their hot breath on the back of their neck, so they decided to add about another 25,000 new domain registrations, as you can see at https://ntldstats.com/tld/vip. With the result that they are still ahead of .Online.
As you can see at https://ntldstats.com/tld/bid thats the exact strategy that .BID did also at sept.9e, sept. 22e and oct.4e.

So keep in mind that without those artificial interventions, .Online would be already at the 7e place now for quite some time. By the way, I loved Ren & Stimpy, so no hard feelings guys.
