I always caution members when they use sales like these to extrapolate a value for other domains.

Traditionally throughout domaining history casino domains have brought large dollar sales. This CANNOT be a benchmark for other similar domain extensions because in most cases it is a "one off" type of sale.

So to all newbies on the forum please don't use this as a reason to go on a binge buying spree of the new extensions. This sale is a rarity and not a benchmark for other sales. Go for quality over quantity when you make your purchasing decisions.

Always good to see a substantial sale, regardless of the extension. Here at Internet Domains we remain unbiased without prejudice and discrimination towards individual extensions. We look forward to a future with all extensions living in harmony and contributing equally. :xf.grin:

A huge sale that is now first in NameBio list of top ngTLD sales.
I am sure both online.casino and casino.online in operation will lead to some confusion.
Does anyone know if price of OnlineCasino.com was ever announced? (not on NameBio)
Most large ngTLD have been registry direct sales, with the The.Club at $300k the largest non-registry sale (obviously was sold as premium initially, but held by an investor who resold it at this price), yet.

Totally agree with @MapleDots. In fact I think there is, even among some in domain community, a fundamental misunderstanding that it is which new extension that determines value. For the most part it is the combination of word+extension that is important. This sale does not tell us that all .casino domain names are valuable, or that the word online in all extensions have value. It is the two together that are an exact match for a high value enterprise.

The only exception to this is apparently in the Asian (maybe just Chinese) market where short .top domain names seem to have high value. If you look at the top 10 sales so far in 2018, 5 are exact match great combinations and 5 are short .top domain names.

And as the legacy investors point out, most big ngTLD sales are registry. This one is a registry sale, as are the second highest on list. In some sales it is complex, but I believe either 6 or probably 7 of the top 10 are registry sales (defined as registry to end user at the high price, sometimes through a marketplace).

Thanks for sharing.

I have a question for all new gTLD investors:

How much would you price this domain if you owned it?

Forget about the sale price, give me your pricing points please.

For me, I would probably price it around 35k - again I am assuming that I didn't know the sale price of both casino.online and online.casino

Wonder what it would have sold for if a domainer owned it instead of the registry? Higher or lower?

Trust me, you wouldn't want to compete with google on this niche... :xf.wink:

In the Translate sale thread many have mentioned that professional / business usage is done with a real service instead of Google Translate which is not human based hence the sales price.

It will be very interesting to see the upcoming(?!) website and which company that actually bought this domain...

Like all other top sales a registry direct sale of their internal reserve names.

It is in a category where the operator makes decent margins, and there is no secret of what it is going to be used for. One of the better hold backs.

I would rather add 300k and buy Translate.com :D

Google itself use one of my domain buyer company for their translation related business. :xf.wink:

Yes 'casino' single keyword domains all fetch decent money if you look at the history of sales.
It is actually interesting cause online betting is forbidden in some countries and some states in U.S if I am not mistaken.

But still its a huge industry. Like in crypto world "tron" is an average or below average crypto asset comparing to others yet it has more transaction volume than ethereum thanks to their online betting businesses developed on tron network. In the mean time ethereum have more than 11x market cap comparing to tron.

I think online betting is a huge business and crypto based online betting bussiness will be even bigger cause governments can't control or track crypto transactions hence it is "almost" impossible to regulate crypto betting online.

An interesting question. I could see anywhere from $2000 to $200,000! The latter driven by considering what the switch of the word previously fetched, the former by a price range where many nice match sales in ngTLDs happen.

Overall, I could go along with those who say price paid was high, but I could also totally justify it on basis that to me online casino is slightly better than casino online.

Re @creataweb question, I think the registry would in this case get a higher price than a domainer. I think when talking 6 figure sales companies feel more trust dealing with registries.
