I got a gold star :D

In all seriousness though it has been interesting, when I first came here I knew next to nothing about domain names and about how they work apart from having the vaguest sense that they could be valuable to people.

I bought a couple of early domains, admittedly they were crap, but learnt from those mistakes and evolved my searching habits and eventually started finding better and better ones and missed quite a few due to Paypal/Visa issues but still kept learning.

If there is one thing I am appreciative of it is probably the issues with paypal, it taught me to slow down and consider things before rushing ahead and buying everything under the sun, even when it meant that I missed great names like Hairdressing.info and Sunbathing.info lol (And yes, I am still pissed at that lol) yet I still find stellar domains constantly because I hang back and don't spend my money at once. If I had had a paypal account I would've probably bought 100+ domains a week in the early months and bankrupted myself lol

I may only have a couple of domains to my name compared to others, but I can honestly say they are the best I have for my budget, and when was winning about being the fastest? It is about having the biggest toys :p

Anyways, heres to the next year when I get a few more names and maybe start building out some sites on what I have :)

What did you learn in your first year?

Congrats Spark,

First and foremost glad you got the first year under your belt. The first year seems to be the hardest as it's all new and there is many different opinions and options. I see so many members who simply give up well before they reach the first year.

Your going about it the right way...learn the ropes before jumping in with both feet. Simply put it's best to watch what others do and take notes!

Now my first year was a crazy ride as I recall ...I learned so much and to this day I try to learn at least a few new things daily about domaining. I learned to not fall prey to the news articles stating such and such made a million bucks off his domain...and so can you! Over hype and they don't tell you the research and planning and investment that went into that sale.

The single best bit of advice came from Samit during my first year....you can't win them all and choose your battles ;)

Once again congrats to you spark! Your a great member who has a very bright future and just take it one domain/day at a time ;)

Cheers to many more years!

ONYA Sparhawke

I learnt many things in my first year. One was enhancing my develoment skills with different Content Management Systems like WordPress and Joomla.

Also the variety of domain name extensions.

Cheers
