I received early notice about the one penny .xyz's offered through Uniregistry.
I am not a big fan of the new gtld's, and I only own a few extensions I bought for low prices on sale.
So when Uniregistry offered the .xyz's for a penny a piece I figured I would reg a bunch, what could I lose.
I regged several hundred in a few different visits.
All in all it was no risk as it cost less than a cup of coffee to reg a bunch and I could just drop them in a year if I want.
I entered many lists of names.
After the interface processed the names it told me which ones were premium, registered or available.
Of the ones available, many were quite expensive and some were available for a penny.
I admit 99.9% of the ones I regged are not good and I will probably never sell them, but they were so inexpensive it doesn't matter.
There were a handful of domains that were pretty good.
A few one word domains that made sense and had some marketability.
If it were not for the few good ones, I would not have bought any at all.
I was just easier to buy them all at once then spend a lot of time going through them all, and I wanted to reg the good ones right away before they were snapped up.
Let me say here, I know all the best .xyz names were regged long ago or are premiums.
Here is the problem-
After my domains were processed, paid for and registered, the best of the "good' ones were all missing from my account. This happened on more than one occasion over the last 24 hrs.
Only one said "already registered".
Perhaps someone else beat me to it by a few seconds, and I accept that.
The others said something about a processing error.
What are the odds that of hundreds of domains, most of the "good" ones were not registered and had "errors".
Keep in mind I only made the purchase because of the "good" names.
I was not informed of the "errors" until I had paid for the domains and they were in my account.
Now I own a bunch of mostly sh*t .xyz names.
What are the odds?
I am out just a few bucks so it is not a great loss, and it is not worth doing anything about, but something seems fishy to me.
Like I said, what are the odds?
I wonder if I am the only one.
Maybe it's just a big coincidence?
