More than 20,000 .XYZ dropped today

According to Domainpunch's statistics, more than 20,000 .XYZ were dropped today. Far from a surprise, but maybe worth to mention. Are these the Network Solution drops?

They are probably not available to register for quite some time yet.

Ps. I just check the ones with up to 5 characters and all (maybe except 2 or 3) were just nonsense.

There are still 6000-12000 daily .XYZ drops. In just a few days the total number or registered names will be less than 700,000.

Will .XYZ lose more than 50% of its regs before New Year?!

Depends on how many that forgot to uncheck auto renewal

Looks like the stats are not keeping up with 6k - 12k drops per day, where do you see this if in fact it's happening?

Look at the page carefully:
Domains: 1,101,531 (16.30%)
Domains in Zonefile: 724,689 (65.79%)

The first figure is the number of domains claimed by the registry.
The second figure is the actual number of domains provisioned in the zone file.

How to account for the difference ? The difference normally is the number of domains pending deletion... they still exist but they are in redemption and thus removed from the zone file.

I can confirm that .xyz has lost 10K registrations since yesterday and it is a continuing trend. .xyz will continue to shrink unless they try to inflate the figures again with freebies etc.

A similar case is the .xxx registry that claims about 200K domains, but in fact half of those domains do not truly exist, they are reserved domains that are not even resolving. They are not in the zone file either. The .xxx zone file has 100K domains... and at least 80% are unused.
