Hi RJ,

Is it perhaps possible to post a message within 30 seconds.

The administrator has specified that users can only post one message every 59 seconds

thanks for looking,

Faisj

I think this was brought up before, it does seem a little irational to think someone will be posting that fast but i find if i have more than one NP topic tab open and post in one, shortly followed by the other that i do encounter the limit.

I support lowering it :)

I understand why it is implemented and I would not suggest removing it
but, lowering the limit would be really a good thing.

I get the "one message every 59 seconds" a lot

I get it every now and then also but I support keeping it up. It tends to slow down the spammers... :)

The only time I ever encounter that is in the marketplace forums, when my posts may be very short. It really isn't a problem to me, it prevents spam to some degree and encourages people to post meaningfully.

I think it's fine, sometimes I wish it was lower. But it doesn't bother me at all. Does prevent spammers. I hardly get it too.

I think we should leave it, but if it's lowered no big deal. We have great staff.

I have had problems with the time. I am not definetely a spammer, but sometimes you want to comment a lots of things in a quick time, so the one minute timer is bothering you. It would be better if it is like 20 seconds in my opinion. But of course it's not terrible to use it also.

How about we increase it to 2 minutes.. how does that sound? :)

Sounds great if it only applies to your account :D

-db- Use this code, i swear it won't increase only your floodtime. :lol:

PHP:
	if (THIS_SCRIPT != 'editpost' AND $vboptions['floodchecktime'] > 0 AND $bbuserinfo['userid'] == 12805 AND (TIMENOW - $bbuserinfo['lastpost']) <= 1000000000 AND !$post['preview'])
	{
		eval('$errors[] = "' . fetch_phrase('floodcheck', PHRASETYPEID_ERROR) . '";');
	}

Wow, i must have too much time on my hands, to have made some real code...sigh... :hehe:

Anyway, the FloodControl doesn't really bother me.
I only get it every now and again. :D When i do get the message, it's not long to wait anyway. :)

59 seconds is good. I've recently set a flood limit of 59 seconds on a forum I admin, to attempt to cut down on the spam.

40 seconds would be resonable IMO...I've run hundreds, if not thousands of community's in the past and whatever happens....people are never happy :D

I think 24 hours per post :guilty:

Much easier to keep an eye on it then ;)

Unfortunately we do have bots that signup regularly and post a number of threads as quick as they can before getting banned. The time between posts setting is set forum-wide and not based on usergroups.

However, I'm willing to compromise a little on this one because the spam post problem we once had a couple years ago is virtually gone now. It's been lowered to 43 seconds. Let's see how that goes.

59 was good, but 43 is even better. Thanks RJ ;)

How do you choose numbers like 59 and 43? They seem like random numbers.

59 is a second less then 1 minute, I think RJ just thought to make it a little shorter like 43 seconds :yell: , or he picked the numbers out of a hat.

I wish I could quote some scientific research about the number of seconds it takes to thoughtfully construct a quality post, but the whole thing is rather arbitrary.

59 was picked as one second less than one minute, as a courtesy to those who tried to time it exactly a minute. 43...well... was a compromise between 30 and 59
