So, I've just registered my first domain and I'm wondering what I can do now to attract potential bids (if any!).

Also, in the meantime, how do I make money out of it from the advertising or whatever?

I mean... enough money to cover the registration cost would do me.

Cheers. :)

Well, the trick is not to register some domain, then figure out how to sell it :)
Hopefully you've done lots of research, and buyers have a compelling reason for wanting to buy that domain from you, that was still unregistered in 2012 because nobody thought it was worth a $10 registration ?

You normally don't get any traffic and hence parking revenue from freshly registered domains.

You can try listing it at Sedo or Godaddy auctions. You'll get offers via email if the domain is good. You could try emailing some buyers, but don't spam. You could try flipping it here.

You're not going to have any type in visitors. Your best bet would be to create a website and either sell products or display ads. You'll have your work cut out for you advertising your new site.

Best of luck.
