OK canada, if this is how it will be. Stop taking the billions of dollars we give you out of charity every year to keep your psuedo nation alive. I've spent the [ast ten summer vacations in Canada, but not more. I'll save that 5 or 6K spent and go to Vegas and somewhere that appreciattes us.

(hehe, sorry.. but CNN.com wont post my comments lol)

Lee and I were discussing this in a pretty mature, respectful way, but it seems to have taken a little bit of an intense turn....

Agreed. And I would suggest that the best way to prevent repetitions of such unnecessary attention-grabbing forum behaviour, and inappropriate language, is quite simply to ignore posts like these and instead to bring them directly to the attention of the moderators. And of course, if NP condones behaviour and expressions like these, then I would seriously question my being a part of this community.

It's also quite interesting to do a simple search on a member's public profile - a lot of things will come to light, such as historical posts, total posts and posts per day, etc. That said, this is my second and final post on this thread - got to put into practice what I suggested! Cheers to all.

I would suggest that you read the subheading underneath the BreakRoom title, and that if you find a thread offensive here, immediately cease to attend it or post in it, which, it appears that you have already wisely, decided to do. However, you are free to express your opinion on this subject, as we all are, and if you have a change of heart, and wish to post again, it wouldn't be held against you.

Freedom of expression has been one of the topics that is central to this thread. I will have to reread the posts looking for the inappropriate language, you are alluding to. Didn't see it first time around, but different people have differnt tolerance levels. When and where it is allowed, I , for one, believe it is healthy for people to vent their frustration, in a safe setting as opposed to harboring it, where it may ferment into something far worse and more dangerous.

Yes, we can all do detective work here as well as on the net, audit other members lives, apply our own values, and find the information "useful. Why does this activiy, along w/ the call to censure a thread that is within the established guidelines of the forum, have a threatening, fascist sort of ring to it?

Intense. I am happy you are a proud canadian. All people should be proud of their nation, and fight to ensure it remains as good while striving to maintain its growth. However, Canada is not a "free" nation. You have what is called "anti hate language" laws which will prosecute you for saying something like "Homosexuality is wrong and a sin.".

Calling Americans Bastards and Idiots is a hate crime in Canada. Perhaps I, as a good upstanding American should press charges. Food for thought. If you do not respect my nation, my people and my leader.. then do not expect me to respect yours.

Suthra, I noticed you havent stated which nation your from. Care to state it so we can critique you nation, peoples and leadership?

For those offended by this thread, Please.. submit your concerns to the Canadian govt. for this outlandish Criminal act.

Would you mind if I did critique your country Suthra? The politics? Internal strifes and failed leadership? The poverty and class alienation of it's citizens?

I ask because, unlike others here.. I have the class to first obtain permission to assail another nation that is not my own and that I have no personal connection too and have never been there.

let me know, I have a ton of material.

There is no probs in critisizing a country's politics lee. If all the hidden/looted income of our political leaders are revealed, they might come in the top 10 richest persons of the world ;).

Yes, Suthra there is when you have no first hand experience in the matters.

What do you know of America, Americans and President Bush other than what you hear and read on the news? Nothing I am willing to bet.

I have no qualms about India or Indians per se'. I have and have had several friends from there and love them very deeply. I just want that to be known, so as not to be called a bigot or nation hater or whatever the "lefties" on this site will surely call me once this ensues. And Of course I have no issues with you other than the fact you feel you can speak of something of which you have no knowledge of, other than what you have been told, please understand that. This isnt and wont be against you personally.

Lee, I see dark clouds in the horizon for this thread.

Who is suthra to give permission? Is he the only Indian on this board? Can he speak for all of India? If he does give you permission, will you then also allow him to speak more of America's politics? While we're at it, which of our Canadian friends on the board gave you permission to bash all of Canada and call it a pseudo-nation, over the remark of one MP, whom their prime minister apparently admonished over the matter?

Personally, I think that all political debates are okay on NP, specially if :
- the debaters do it with a level head and do not stoop to name-calling or hate-mongering
- there are no prejudicial statements regarding race, sexual preference , or religion
- as much as possible, issues discussed have international significance (i.e., Bush's Iraq policy - such as how prisoners are treated and who gets the big oil contracts - affects everyone; India's poverty level affects non-Indians much less)

BTW, suthra, I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say thank you India for giving us the Kama Sutra. :D

the point is, since this is a global forum we need to respect everyone's country and opinions...

Lee - be careful what you say and please get your facts straight, yes, gay marriage is legal in some places in Canada, but the rules on hate crimes are very similar to the US...

Lets not start taking cheap shots at the countries whose residents are in this discussion

OK Armstrong, I'll do this. I'll wait till im off the painkillers and am able to clearly think before (if) we continue this.

I wasnt going to turn this into a India bashing tourney though.. moreso just point out flaws in India, its politics and peoples from a second hand account.

To me, that is as unfair as what they are doing. But in no way would it be demeaning.

Alas, I'll wait :)

GT, the point i was trying to make is that, while we understand your hate crimes laws.. you cannot take away freedom of speech so as not to "hurt someones feelings" becaus they don't like being called a name.

Of due note, Carolynn Parish is one of the main backers of that "hate crime" law.. kinda funny i think lol. Don't take offense at this man. Im not saying I hate canadians or canada. I am simply responding fairly to what I feel is an extremely unjust and unprofessional event by a member of your govt.

That speaks volumes. Lee, I am reletively in the middle w/ this discussion, seeing points that I agree w/ and disagree w/ coming from just about everyone that has posted here. But I will tell you this, in totally non-condescending terms- the pain killers can get you into a mental state where you will feel more contentious and argumentative than normal. You still might have the exact same points to make, but you will do so in a less agitated manner when your head clears. I speak from experience. I once came back to a companies offices to check back in after a job, had been taking vicodin for a strained back, and had stopped off w/ the crew and knocked down a couple of beers. I had some righteous issues that needed addressing w/ the owner of the company, but starting in w/ him at that moment was a bad decision which created some very bad ramifications for me later. My2c, and I hope others will see this and take this into account.

That's because you are on the inside lookin out at the moment. In a couple of days, I bet that you will edit-> [also be able to think] in a more detached manner as well. Hang in there, buddy.

this thread is the same old trite bullshit.
1) wah wah wah americans are arrogant.
2) oh yeah? america gives shitloads of money to everyone in the world, etc etc, blah blah blah
3) wah wah wah they declare war unjustly
4) america stamps out terrorism, blah blah blah

The end of it all is that NO ONE in the world can get on their high horse about how fantastic their country is and how awful another country is because...... EVERY COUNTRY HAS DONE THE EXACT SAME THING OR WORSE IN THE LAST 1000 YEARS. In any situation. Usually more than once. Invariably when roles are reversed, country A always does exactly the same actions that they decried of country B. And vice versa. Get some perspective.

As far as Canada, who cares if some junior official talked some crap? I like Canada, Canadians, and Molson (especially, Molson). America, Americans, and Goose Island Pale Ale kick ass too.

Can't we just focus on beer contributions?

lol @ apollo.

BTW lee, iam not an anti american. At present America decides the world's fate. Even indian rupee is valued against american's dollar to decide an economic stability in india.
So whatever its leader do, affects the whole world.

Iam against Bush's acts right from the beginning.

But anyway, thatz my opinion. :)

I voted, by the way ... nice poll! :tu:

I think just about everything that's needed to be said here has been said, if I'm not mistaken ... fair enough if we wrap this "break" up by the end of the weekend?
Appreciated, and thanks for staying cool! B-)

LeeRyder, since your post seems to originate from ignorance and the inability to separate one person's comments from the beliefs of an entire nation, I would have to say it carries little weight.

I feel sorry for you. You seem, like most others who have been brainwashed by the Bush regime, to have little ability to think for yourself.

You won't be missed in Canada if you choose not to visit again.

Let's address a few of your demented and painfully ignorant ramblings.

Stop taking the billions of dollars we give you out of charity every year to keep your psuedo nation alive.

Can you explain what "charity" you provide for us, and how you conclude that Canada is a "pseudo" (please not the correct spelling) nation?

We do nothing but charity for canada and ask very little if anything in return.

Again, please elaborate.

Jane, I think a Friendly Fire incident (which is an accidental happening, like a car accident) is unfair to say "The Americans did this to us!".

No more unfair than labelling an entire country based on the opinions of one person. By the way, that friendly fire incident was incompetance and poor training, not just a simple mistake.

we think of canada as the 51st state, the little sister that couldnt. we feed her, protect her... buy her toys..whatever. hence the term "pseudo Nation".

I know many "intelligent" Americans. I lived and worked there. Strangely enough, not a single one of them thought of Canada as the 51st state.

And over 50% of us feel Bush's behaviour is appropriatte.

And yet, less than 50% of you thought that he was competent enough to become president. Strange.

First, we did not condem canada for being afraid of going to war to fight, regardless of reason or intent.

You didn't condemn because you had no cause. Canada certainly is not afraid to go to war. I dare say we have as good or better record than you do of defending what is "right".
Canada is one of the top allies in the war on terrorism, in place where the war is justified. We choose not to blindly follow into a war that is a Bush family agenda and has no relation to the war on terrorism.

As per 9/11. How dare you insinuate 9/11 had anything to do with what you said.
Take off the blinder buddy. 9/11 had EVERYTHING to do with what GT Web said.

However, Canada is not a "free" nation. You have what is called "anti hate language" laws which will prosecute you for saying something like "Homosexuality is wrong and a sin.".

What a fantastically hypocritical comment coming from a republican.
Your hate language laws and your homeland security bill are far more restrictive than anything in Canada.
Can you name some cases where anyone in Canada was arrested for saying what they believed?

Calling Americans Bastards and Idiots is a hate crime in Canada.

Please show me the applicable law here.

You make me sad Lee.
I'm glad I have the sense not to judge all Americans by your comments.

You should try to do the same.
