Hey guys, I'm a newbie when it comes to pre-ordering, backordering anything but normally registering a domain.

Anyway, I'm really interested in a domain name that's currently up on snapnames for pre order, though when I did a whois check on it I got this:

Whois Server: whois domain com
Referral URL: domain com
Name Server: EIG1 RENEWYOURNAME NET
Name Server: EIG2 RENEWYOURNAME NET
Status: ok
Updated Date: 18-mar-2013
Creation Date: 15-mar-2001
Expiration Date: 15-mar-2014

I don't get it, the domain is supposed to go in auction in less than a day, yet it expires next year?

I would very much appreciate some enlightening, and yes I did search for before posting a new thread, didn't find anything.

Many thanks, cheers.

What you see is the registry whois output.
Expired domains are provisionally renewed with the registry.
So the registrar whois would say 2013 typically. You can do the lookup on the website of the registrar in question.

That whois makes sense because domains are often auctioned roughly 35 days post expiry.

I'm so sorry but I honestly did not understand anything you just said, I'm an awful noob when it comes to domains, I don't buy them to flip them or add to my collection, I do it for my websites, or for SEO purposes.

So you are saying it's fine that it shows that, that the domain is expiring next year? and that it's currently parked, also the auction has started for it..

Yes it is OK, it happens very often.
