How much are .cc domains worth ? Just wanna know

I've been trying to sell tlds dot cc in the low $xxx range for ages, and although almost every extension for it is taken, there have been no offers at all. Is the domain really that bad? It makes me lose confidence in investing in this extension

You've got to ask yourself what .cc adds to the keyword tlds and how saleable the keyword is. On dnsaleprice.com, there are no previous keyword sales for tlds and there is no association or fit between tlds and .cc. On Sedo, there is 1 bid for a domain with the keyword tld or tlds in. There are 100's of extensions so unless the keyword sells in .com and other alternative extensions, you have little chance of selling.

Making money out of alternative extensions is very difficult, verging on impossible, you need blockbuster keywords that sell for $1m+ in .com and $XX,XXX in alternative extensions. The keyword need pages of previous historical sales on dnsaleprice.com and 10+ bids in alternative extensions on Sedo.

Using Game.pro as an example, there are 878 bids on the first page of game domains on Sedo, Game.com.my sold for $15,000, Game.com.cn sold for $35,000, Game.com.mx sold for $4,812, Games.eu sold for $95.850, and Games.mobi sold for $44,000. 168m Google indexed pages include the words Game and Pro. About 20% of Google indexed pages that mention the word Game also include Pro.

There are certain keywords that fit .cc like Bike.cc, Motorcycle.cc, Email.cc, CreditCard.cc but beyond that you are relying on the keyword alone to sell the domain. When ICANN flood the market with new gTLD's, domains in alternative extensions where the keyword and extension don't have an obvious fit will be unsaleable in all but the top 20-50 keywords like sex, poker, and casino. tlds.pro is not registered, there are 36,000 .pros registered, so tlds is probably outside the top 36,000 keywords. There have been 60 sales of .cc's this year. What is the statistical likelihood of selling a keyword in .cc outside the top 36,000 when only 60 .cc's have been reported sold in the first 9m of 2009?

tld.cc sold for $70 in Jul 07. Your best bet is to offer it to whoever owns that.

Actually they wern't mine, I was just letting others know they were at GoDaddy Auctions. They went for a little over $100 each I believe. GoDaddy Auctions always gets some great .cc domains up for cheap.

Me too. Feel free to push these ghetto domains into my GoDaddy account. I would hate for anyone to be stuck with these terrible domains in their portfolio.

Wow, thanks for the great advice akcampbell! + rep added. It was like reading a case study.. I now realize that most domains I own that I thought were worth a lot are actually worth not much (or nothing) at all! Yikes.. I've bookmarked this thread so I'll think twice before investing in such extensions. I've already e-mailed the owner of tld.cc - hopefully I'll be getting a reply back. And amenzl, it's funny you should mention those domains because I discovered Latona's forum earlier today Huge coincidence.. A quick search on Sedo (with my new-found perspective thanks to akcampbell) revealed some personaltld domains being bidded on.. I guess it has to do with the ICANN ownership changes.. who knows, if personal tlds take off... tlds.cc might actually be worth something! Though not much.. so I guess I really have to go for those top 36,000 keyword domains huh? 60 sales a year sounds so little.. I guess you either have to go really big, or not go there at all!

Live . cc just sold for $10k, ringtones. cc for $5k, poker. cc for $5k. So I think a good name even with the .cc extension might still be a catch!

and someone grabbed it up and flipped it for a nice profit!
