Numbers vs. letters

Hi,

Does anybody know the answer to the below?

Some domain names have words which sound like numbers. For example, ShopForTech.com and Shop4Tech.com.

If you were to verbally tell a person to go to this domain, what would most people go to - ShopForTech.com or Shop4Tech.com?

All things being equal, which version would be worth more?

Gut feeling says the one with '4' in it - but, I have no hard proof for this.

i suspect that, since people are already in a verbal 'mode', they would likely type FOR. but that's only my opinion.

Unless absolutely unavoidable, I personally make a point of not buying from sites/companies who misuse '4' '2' 'b' 'u' I hate to see language butchered in this fashion.

For your example I'd go with neither and get TechShop.com. If that was not available, and only the choices you gave were, I'd get both and have the '4' domain point to the 'for' domain.

Agreed. The 4/four thing would confuse ppl so it should be dropped altogether if possible.

Dunno about you, though, but it's been a long time since anyone's verbally told me to visit a URL.

I wouldn't ever use the number, only the spelt out version as having the number in the domain serverly devalues it

i think as the younger generation starts to be buyers instead of kids and
and students you will see more of this verbiage kids love it like tech talk on the phone............ and its definitely the future,
but older professionals get giddy with it , same old same old
