I noticed this in bold in the Appraisal Section:

Appraisals with a View to Purchase
Do not own and looking for advice before a Purchase?. Please do not ask about names listed for sale here or to promote names you already own

Does this mean that anybody can ask to have someone elses domain name appraised?

I think this is unfair to the owner. Imagine a low-baller does not achieve his goal to secure a name, he/she can come over here and have the domain appraised (appraently with the intent to purchase) and has people/fake accounts to value the domain negatively.

If this is the case and the owner/end-user wanting to buy the name searches the domain name, the Appraisal Thread will appear in the results of the search engine. This can damage the owners chances of selling the domain.

I think, you must own the domain name before posting-as it was before.

And why would anybody in their right mind post a domain they would want to buy?! This would just attract more people to the name (if it's good)... more competition...

Will people use it? I am sure they will (behaving as though they want to buy the name), maybe just to bash another member or someone they don't like. I am sure we will see many new/(real)troll accounts in the appraisal section.

Adios,

Been waiting to hear something on this since this thread was posted.

No comment on this, guess it should have been posted in the suggestion section.

Seems like this can be writen clearer.

View to Purchase sounds like a movie tittle

promote names you already own so vague.

I believe I know whats the aim here but still makes an experienced nper scratch his head

My thoughts exactly. I was not sure what to make of this or what the intention was. I actually disregarded it for a lack of clarity.

No it dont mean that, just not worded very well

Agreed. The notification is vague and requires some further clarity.

I think it means: do not own a name and ask for its valuation. Like John said, it's not clear enough.

If you don't own it you shouldn't be asking for an appraisal on it. Asking "what is a domain worth" is so damn subjective anyway.

If it works like it is worded then it is a dumb idea...no offence guys.
