I was able to pick up these two names in the 5th day of EAP for a great price. All the highly targeted keywords like news and porn sold in the 2nd day of EAP for around $3,400 each. It's a bit confusing, they should really make ip.now the main.

I think the registration numbers are largely a function of pricing strategy.

.ing is priced very aggressively at the registry level. Many strong single-word verbs carry very high recurring premiums (in some cases five figures annually). That automatically suppresses volume compared to TLDs that are priced for mass adoption.

It looks like Google isn’t optimizing for total registrations, but for revenue per domain and long-term control of key keywords. By keeping renewals high on strong verbs, they prevent low-cost speculation and capture the upside themselves instead of letting early buyers flip them later.

That naturally limits participation mostly to corporations or well-funded startups. So lower domain counts may simply reflect a different positioning strategy.

Whether that strategy succeeds depends on adoption by visible brands over time. If flagship use cases emerge, the model works. If not, high pricing may continue to suppress ecosystem growth.

It will be interesting to see whether this premium-recurring model proves sustainable, as it’s more aggressive than what we’ve seen with many other new gTLDs.
