I purchased an enom 6.95 reseller acct on ebay (using PayPal), and just got a request from seller for my enom acct info including a request for Password and Secret Question, If I pass all of this along, seller will have oppurtunity to go into my account and see details ie CrCards / bank acct info etc, right?. Seems fishy to me, unless there is something w/ procedure of transferring reseller accts that makes this necessary. Please advise..

I suppose I could go into acct and take out/dummy in info and change back after transfer is completed new P/W, actual details, but what a pain in the arse.

I was under the impression that only enom can directly create $6.95 accounts. This was a change that caused some amount of uproar and immediately made such existing accounts valuable, whereas they used to be almost as widely available as the free $8.95 accounts being offered today.

If ETPs can once again create such accounts, then why aren't they creating more of them and making money out of thin air?

Armstrong, $6.95 accounts are being created everyday. (What do yo think you are seeing on eBay) ETP's always had the power to create them. There are ETP's that are making money out of nothing. I don't know what gave you the impression that only enom can create $6.95 accounts.

I know enom change its policy in October 2002, disallowing even big ETPs from creating $6.95 accounts (see old WHT thread http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83763&perpage=15&pagenumber=2 ). I had always thought that the ones being traded were created prior to the rule change. But that rule is aabout 1.5 years old, I guess, and enom may have changed again since then, but if so then this is the first I heard of it, except for some really big players like moderngigabyte (creator of drams) who can still create $7.95 accounts for their clients.

TX for all your input. Mole, I appreciate the warning. I will look into this in more detail, and perhaps find a way to shield info, or to"dummy in " info, changing back before transactions. My major reason for getting a resellers acct was to get w/
Club Drop and a few other reseller features and thought a 6.95 rersellers acct might come in handy downstream (pasrticularly if they become unavailable again).. I currently recieve very favorable rates w/ GoDaddy, and am not as concerned w/ purchasing through the new enom acct.

I think enom changed the pricing structure for new ETP's if that is what you are talking about. The $6.95 accounts with the $8.95 .us & .biz is something that just came out or even the $6.95 .us & .biz. The $8.95 .us & .biz is fairly new which came out less then 12 months ago. I don't want to say any ETP names but if you know who I am talking about, you will know that these ETP are less then 12 months old.

Don't overlook the possibility that he didn't hack your account at all. Your WHOIS info provides everything but secret question and password info. For these, he could have done some elementary Internet research to determine your mother's maiden name. As for the password (a bit trickier) being an ETP, he may actually run a site for domaineers, and have your preferred login info in a database that he could access (assuming you use the same pass for multiple sites).

A bit of a stretch, I know. But I find it very odd that someone would hack an eNom account just to get you default account info. Another more plausible scenario may be that he works at eNom, and sells reseller accounts for the extra income.

ETP's cannot create $6.95 accounts. We just went through this at WHT because a guy there claimed he could "create" new $6.95 reseller accounts. I called the Sales Director at eNom because my $7k didn't give me this ability. I was reassured that nobody except for eNom themselves can create these accounts. Needless to say within minutes Steve at WHT was called by eNom and that sales thread was deleted.

I am not arguing with you but, as with the case with some people buying enom accounts, on ebay and myself purchasing a couple for resale, we were asked for the username we wanted. So these accounts are created and not old accounts created years ago. This is from my own experience and not something I "heard" Thanks.
