TheNextWeb.com published an article as to why you should go for a new GTLD. Here are 10 reasons:

1) Availability
2) Price is cheaper as compared to buying .COM for multiple thousands from others.
3) Meaningful
4) Google doesn’t penalize new domain extensions
5) Entrepreneurs like Paul Allen are using it. Why not us!
6) Better branding and shorter URLs
7) Companies, celebrities, influencers among others are already using it
8) Getting there before others
9) Get identified as a local business
10) Microsites with impact

The description on each of these points and how they are a better prospects than others, may be found on The Next Web

I agree, excluding the being cheaper than .com's part, most are more expensive.

Many but not all. Dig deep you'll find some good regs..

If the article was not written, or commissioned, or endorsed by .tech, it could have some credibility.

Not saying the points are wrong or completely wrong, just think about that. With sales far below expectations, I guess you'll see many of these articles next months 'softly' promoting this or that gTLD

Most domainers may know about new gtld, but almost general people on the word didn't know (yet).
Google never show the web with new GTLD on the google search result, it will be better if there are some new GTLD appear on google SERP, so these new GTLD will be popular for most people, not for domainers only.

That Paul Allen's biz mentioned in the article has quite a domain:

smartcatch.fish

What... Credibility just goes through the roof. Would you answer to an email that comes from @smartcatch.fish?

I was talking to somebody the other day who's a daily Internet and social media user and he had never heard of .Club. I just assumed that okay 'everyone knows at least .Club' but really maybe 5% of Internet users have ever heard of .Club. Forget about .Loans or .Fish.. which is probably more like .5%

Having said that, I still feel like the best ngtld extensions currently are .Club and .Work. With relevant names, e.g: Fan.Club, Net.Work, etc. being the most valuable. And .Web might also do well, especially if they price it to compete with .com and if the registry doesn't hold back any names (unlikely).
