Thought I'd note this here for those that may not have seen or heard this yet. Pinky at mtld is starting this up, where he and a guest will go to these various anounced cities for '.mobi meetups'. The first one is in LA, and we would like to get together as many interested (able) domainers as possible to attend. Would be a great way to meet your fellow domainers, and hear things on .mobi, straight from mtld themselves. We are trying to get a feel of how many may attend, and have started a list of committed attendees for our reference. Interested domainers, please rsvp to the email below for their plannings on this. Also, if you'd like to note here, or to me in a pm, so we can get our own feel of how many other NPers will be going. Hope to see some fellow NPers there!

per Pinky's post-

La Jolla, CA - Thu., March 20th, 7 PM
Toronto, ON - Wed., April 9th – Details coming soon.
Boca Raton, FL - Mon., April 28th - Details coming soon.
Atlanta, GA - Date and details coming soon.

These Happenings will be free, casual and very conversational and always at a cool place. It’s your opportunity to meet dotMobi executives and speak freely about what’s on your mind and what’s on ours. And of course it’s a great way to network and meet others who are interested in dotMobi.

Thanks,

Yes jag, I and a few others did. Here's a few notes on the meetup we had here in LA with Pinky and Amy from mtld.

This meetup/happening was overall a great success imo. The venue was at a great chic LA hotel, the Mondrain which is also where the trendy SkyBar is located. As Tim noted in his blog, the food was great, and the service there was excellent. I was a little late due to Hollywood traffic, but when I got there people were mingling away. There were about 20 or so very enthusiastic .mobi participants. Some had come from San Diego, Hesperia, and other locales. I met a very nice couple that owned radio stations, who own about 600 plus mobi's. In fact a lot of the people I talked with, had pretty decent sized .mobi portfolios of 300, 500, even 6,000+ names. Everyone was friendly, mobi supportive, and curious to the future of .mobi.

There was no earth shattering news or insights perse, but Pinky and Amy went over some of the things that were and have been happening for the extension and mtld. They had just met with some ad agencies that day, and were quite pleased with the way those meetings went. They were very upbeat on the future of .mobi, and reassured us that the investors were not jumping or abandoning the mobi ship, as so many naysayers want to insinuate. I pressed the issues of the need/importance of information and .mobi news etc, to the .mobi investor community at what I feel is an important time frame now, renewals. I noted to Amy that as .mobi domainers, so much of what we go by and assess the market and future/success of .mobi, is thru the 'street talk', so to speak, of forums and bloggings. (and those lovely naysayers!) And as renewals are upon us, the feedback/postings in these blogs and postings can leave so many with a 'oh oh' kinda opinion, and will/is affecting decisions on renewing or not. Especially as so many jumped into .mobi hoping to be on the ground floor of this 'opportunity', and a lot of 'newbies' look up to and follow the lead, of those that were nothing more than 'lucky enough' to have regged good .coms early and had success, and 'their' POV's of .mobi. She saw my points and how more community info would help overall.

It was good to be around other .mobiers, and domainers, (in person for a change!), and hear their stories and opinions. Got to admit, the crowd was a little more so older than I had anticipated, expecting more twenty and thirty somethings. But all were on the mobi bandwagon!! Even saw a few from DomainFest there too. I really enjoyed seeing Pinky again, meeting Amy, Miri and her husband, Cobo, as always Tim, and the others there.

This was a very good event, especially with the short prior notice. I hope others will make the effort to make one of these meetups if they can that may be near them. Pinky and Amy are very friendly and involved in wanting to make mobi a success, and enjoy meeting the .mobi domaining community. I think they had a good impression and were satisfied with this first meetup, and the others should only get better.

The one thing I may suggest to those that do attend these, is that if you have questions or things you want clarified, address them with Pinky and the guests he brings. Don't expect to get the complete inside scoops, but you will get honest assessments and answers for your self evaluations and knowledge.

A BIG Thanks to Pinky and Amy for this meetup.
