.Mobi is a direct product of Nokiea market research. They tried to get it approved in 2000 or 2001, said Mr Neil in his interview. When they did not convince ICANN, then they brought the other corporations onboard.

If there are going to be .mobi defaults in mobile devices then Nokiea is the likely place they would start.

It's in the telcos best interest to see .mobi succeed. Competition is bringing down prices for unlimited bandwidth -- cheaper for them to provide the necessary bandwidth for .mobi pages than graphic intensive ones, no?
