Is it just me or has there been a serious lack of good names dropping?

There used to be tons of generics and high traffic names dropping every day...now I can't seem to find anything good.

I've always used Premium Drops for my research. Have they stopped publishing the good names? Is there another service that anyone can recommend?

Any info would be appreciated!

ya it does seem to be when namejet started up - that is network solutions run, correct?

since that's where all the good names always came from (network solutions), it seems more than likely that they have just decided to keep all the good ones for themselves and leave the rest for us :td:

Exactly my feeling... they are domainers too and leave the crumbs to us :guilty:
LLL .com and good generics have suddenly become scarcer on the drop market :rolleyes:

I created www.Manntis.com as this is what I have been doing instead of relying on 3rd party services. Manntis has all the links for the auction services to download auction lists. I download the domains from the source (namejet, snap etc).

Then, you can use another tool that I have made public www.LazyMate.com which you can input your own database (domain list) and search it as you wish. The quick search is nice, because it allows you to find the very best, very easy out of the list you put in. The basic search also allows for great searching. ;)

I am just about done with another site as well, which will likely launch tonight or tomorrow. This one, will provide lists of Tasted domains. You can then select times & dates to grab the domains etc. Watch my sig for when this one is ready.

I think it might be that there are fewer domains being dropped as more people are educated about the potential value of their domains.

With that said, there is also a lot more competition now, so those with deeper pockets are getting most of the valuable dropped domains.

Snapnames sold to Oversee.net

Enom/bulkregister sold to Demand Media

Netsol/bulkregister/enom names going to namejet

...its not a huge jump of the imagination to guess where the good names "may be" going recently :rolleyes: ...who said that !

There's a good article here from CNN on Feb. 11, 2008

Domain Name Game Still Going Strong; Tad Less Secretive

I think there are several reasons:

- Partnership of NetSol -> NameJet

- Tucows announced they are now Investing in that field too, so i think they keep good dropping names

- Very Good/Good quality owners are already contacted with some offers, so they would not let them drop

In addition to that, I believe Networksolutions is up to some other tricks. Here is an email I just got:

++++
A third party (the Buyer) using our Certified Offer Service(SM) has made an offer to buy USRENTCAR . COM. The Buyer has entered into a binding agreement with Network Solutions to use our Certified Offer Service and funds to purchase the domain name have been pre-authorized on the Buyer's credit card.
++++

The domain is not for sale - the offer is $100 :)

That could be anyone really IMO

If the name has privacy protect on then thats about the only option to try and buy it.

In a few years, I think very few good domains will drop.

The best form would be to email the domain owners. I've had the privelege of getting some gems for good prices.

At Pool, NameJet, SnapNames they see the pool of great generics drying up just like we do. That then means that the days of the "domain auction houses" are dying for good domains. Using just a little forethought, they see that us "serious domainers" will not be their customers in a couple of years b/c the inventory of good domains will be gone. So they are thinking, and rightly so, the common population will supplant our positions as the primary purchases of the rest of the lame secondary market domains.

Even TDNAM, which historically had less good names, in addition to the domain auction platfroms mentioned above, is drying up. They used to have a ton of mid-tier generics but have since been struggling to show much of anything good. So that shows that the availability of good domains is dwindling.

In regard specifically to TDNAM drying up, this is just natural maket forces. Meaning more awareness among common-folk and most of the good domains are now in the hands of domainers, so the available pool has shrunk in the hands of non-domainers. Godaddy is not reserving the good ones for themselves. So this is not a second hand involved manipulating the game like at NameJet, SnapNames, and Pool.

The good 'ol days are over, but a few nuggets here and there are still to be found. Grab them while you can b/c the fun is ending in the auctions.

Pretty soon those of us who concentrate on domain auctions are going to be twiddling our thumbs if we don't either find new venues to search for domains or start developing. :)

There are still plenty of nice drops IMO, you just need to know where to look and more importantly how to go about acquiring these names. If you rely only on domain auctions you are one an even platform with every other domainer so think outside of the box.

Personally a lot of names that i'm buying nowadays are developed sites, you would be surprised how many well trafficked sites are still owned by the original owner who may have put the site up back in the late 90's just for their own interests. The sites are now ranked really well, receive good traffic and the owners don't even realise the potential or have any idea about monetizing the site. Offer them a few thousand, and their over the moon :)
