Moving on from the 3D, Cloud , NFC, Marijuana etc....trends, what do people think will be the next big money maker for the domainer?

I have a few Big Data domains but I like my hand in several dishes so if anyone would like to share their thoughts I'm sure a lot of domainers would appreciate any insights to what's gonna be hot or not.

Cheers

Stu

Two recent developments I've invested in:

WIGIG (wifi at gigabyte speed, think phones streaming to your tv, wireless photo printers, etc)
I hand regged the .coms wigigtv, cloudwigig, wigigusb, wigigstreaming, wigigapp, wigigcloud, and some others. I'll give it a year and see where it goes. And yes I know it's trademarked, but I think so is WiFi and Big Data.
more info: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...=ie3TddqjMQjLcankZCPeKw&bvm=bv.71778758,d.aWw

lithium anode batteries (the holy grail has just been cracked, according to the latest news. Will double the battery life of your phone.) I picked up in .com LithiumAnodeBattery and LithiumAnode. The plural of the first is still available I think.

This just keeps on getting better and better , my honest opinion is that more companies will adopt this technology much sooner that first thought.

Interesting. Little by little it is finally taking shape. I'm following that very closely. :D

Salt Water Farming will be huge, and 'save the world', in the age of Global Warming droughts.

In a nutshell, huge greenhouses will be built with a water tank basement, sea water is piped-in, the water evaporates -feeding the plants above... and the salt byproduct becomes another cash crop.

Beyond food, growing biofuels will provide sustainable energy.

I try to keep up with the tech industry by reading the news daily. When Google announced they were coming out with Android Wear Smart Watches, I snatched up WearSmartWatches dot com. Android Wear smartwatches are coming out soon if not already out and I'm expecting them to be more successful then this other "wearable" garbage (even though "smartwatches" are a form of wearable).

When I saw that fuel cell industry was launching next year, I registered FuelCellCar dot net. Ironically they were all taken in the other extensions, except for the .net, which leads me to believe someone may have let it expire.

They recently announced a few days ago a company coming out with a "flow cell" car that's supposedly has "Tesla killer" technology, so I got greedy and registered FlowCellCar dot com and FlowCellCars dot com.

(Note: The dot net, org and infos are still available if you're interested).

There is of course no guarantee that there will even be a demand for these domains in the coming years, but I'm holding on to them just in case lol.

Just make sure you're up on the latest tech news.

Beware the modular phone.... (Read this on Reddit)

"I honestly thought this whole project ara thing was a joke for the longest time. I think it's a terrible idea. Just a matter of time until people start putting cheap Chinese knockoff parts on their phones and setting their house on fire."

Yeah the modular thing never really sounded nice to me. Why on EARTH would someone want to be able to play around with the different "modules" of their phone like some kind of lego kit. I'm a grown man with limited time for such nonsense....It sounds like a fucking nightmare...

Nerdy is "cool" but efficient is cooler. The modular route is actually the opposite of what Apple is trying to do, KISS...

Not for me but kids may dig it

"kids" like 12yo at the science fair "kids"? lol. The older, "SnapChatting" douchebags are not interested in nerding around with their phones...They barely want to know what's going on in the news, never mind what's in their phones lol.

Maybe in Japan college culture...or Seoul...but not America

I do have consolephone, worth noting if you can turn the toy/phone into something you can play games with it may take off with the younger crew

'Dammit, that phone mod had spyware in it! '

Yeah, I liked your first post about modular phones...pretty much wraps up how I feel about this in a nutshell. And there's no guarantee that kids will want to "make" things out of their phones. The market hasn't been tested AND the comparison in performance between a modulated phone turned handheld console vs a machine made just for hand held gaming...I just don't know >_>

The whole "modular" phone idea is not new.

Before the smartphone era, people loved to customise their phones. I can remember having multiple shells and cases for my Nokia 3210, getting the lights behind the keypad changed from the boring yellow to neon blue and being able to carry around a spare battery to swap in if my phone went flat. The modular phone concept is just an expansion of a freedom that was taken away once everyone started to copy the iPhone.

Yeah, Nokia has licensed and sued folks over their patents...it's happens when you come up with innovated products that the gen pub isn't ready for. They had a hand held internet browser long before there was even an iphone. They just suck with timing and their designs suck...

Nokia...what a sad story...they were at the top and could have been something *wiping tears* but they couldn't stop coming out with fugly phones, wouldn't let go of symbian, came up with that stupid MeGo os and then went Microsoft...the dummies get what they deserve.

Their latest nutcase move was coming out with an Android phone with the Metro tile gui...it's like they're on the crazy pill and can't make up their minds or something...

The Next trend is:
Smart Wearable Systems (SWS)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Smart Wearable Systems (SWS) are end-to-end integrated and connected systems characterized by the presence of the following key elements:

  • one or more sensors and actuators nodes at the end-user side and possibly integrated into worn items
  • nodes connectivity to local and/or remote central processing unit
  • central processing units capable to classify events and, when actuators are available, trigger and control proper corrective actions

Sensor nodes can monitor a.o. body location, motion & posture, body vital signs and local context. Actuator nodes can influence properties of the worn items, e.g. in order to protect the wearer from risks, or provide wearer with feedback/recommendations.

The concept of SWS can be seen as an extension and integration of the wearable electronics (wearable computers) and intelligent textiles concepts (e-textiles) from isolated to fully (web) connected systems thus enabling provision of a new category of products, services and solutions.

Examples of SWS application categories can be active safety, risks prevention, coaching, performance improvements, entertainment. For instance e.g. supervised continuous remote monitoring/co-ordination of workers exposed to specific risks, soldiers on the field, people with chronic cardiac diseases or e.g. fitness coach systems where assessment of fitness level as well feedback and improvement recommendations based on deviations from training plans are provided during or after the activity.

SWS applications are emerging a.o. in the sport, entertainment, healthcare, military domains.

The term Smart Wearable Systems has been referenced a.o. by the following authors (sorted, most recent first):

  • New Generation of Smart Wearable Health Systems and Applications, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN BIOMEDICINE, VOL. 9, NO. 3, SEPTEMBER 2005, pg 293
  • Smart wearable systems for personalised health management: current R&D and future challenges, Lymberis, A., Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2003. Proceedings of the 25th Annual International Conference of the IEEE, 17-21 Sept. 2003, Volume: 4, pg 3716- 3719
