I am looking into starting a news site for my local football team which I have the .com for. Could anyone recommend a script that would be suitable?

So, I would go for Drupal, because that is what I'm good at.

You have many contributed modules that can help you with a sports news site. Some modules tto check - OG Teampage | drupal.org, Sports Club Management | drupal.org etc.

How about trying out with Wordpress because it has so many plugins that you can use. So easy to install and so easy to create a perfect website.
