So, I would go for Drupal, because that is what I'm good at. You have many contributed modules that can help you with a sports news site. Some modules tto check - OG Teampage | drupal.org, Sports Club Management | drupal.org etc. You can check this link for some sports site built using drupal. sports | drupal sites network
