Hello, I am new to this, and I have a question.

How long does it take for a domain to resolve?

:)

As little as a few minutes to as long as 24 hours. Usually no more than 24 hours.

Thank you. But now that I think about it I don't know if resolve is the right word. I back ordered a domain, that expired on the 30th of december, but the website that was up is still up, and they didn't renew it. Why is this? And when should I expect my domain?

I'm not sure but someone said that register.com kept them in for a year after expiration. Stupid I know.

Well with backordering you should try to find the best service, some are horrible some are okay and some are great (I think) but they are all different.

Hope I helped

Yes, thank you. It was through register.com, that would explain the wait.

Once a domain expires then they go through several phases before they are actually available to the general public again. The domain you're interested in only expired 6 days ago and it generally takes 30+ days to reach the "Pending Delete" stages, sometimes longer or shorter depending on the registrar as well. Once it reaches "Pending Delete" then you can expect for it to be about 6 days before it drops, unless it's snapped up then chances are you won't even see it available.

That domain would be in the "Redemption Period" now in which the owner may renew the domain and the website and everything will remain functional. Once the records are deleted then that's when the website and email will no longer work.

Here's a nice breakdown of the deletion cycle of a domain, http://www.snapnames.com/deleteprocess.html

Best of luck to you! :)

I have another question if you guys don't mind.

Where is the best place to park a domain?

well two I guess....

And if a domain is "new", has never had traffic, is there really a point to parking it?

thanks,
oulzac

That all depends on what the domain name is whether a new domain will get any traffic to park. Some names can get a lot of typein traffic, especially .com names if the domain has a good keyword or keywords. Even a long one, though short is better. If you have dajfdf.com, probably not going to get much, but if it's freecellphones.com you may get a lot. Parking, as others have said, and that I've discovered is good for the short term until you either sell the domain or develop it. Unless it's a high traffic domain or a domain that pays high keyword value per click, then it's just some place to put it while it's sitting dormant for a bit of extra cash.

As far as where to park, lot of different options. Parkingprimer.com is one of the best places to get a synopsis. Also check out the PPC forums here to get the varying opinions on who's best.
