Ok..this is a newbie question. How come most of you write "name dot com" rather then "name.com"? Thanks!

People usually list it that way so it doesn't index in search engines.

If you are asking for an appraisal or talking about a domain in general, you might not want it to be indexed in search engines for various reasons.

So that the name doesn't show up in search.

Google and other search engines index and archive everything. So, you can easily find out all the conversations out there surrounding a particular domain.

But when you go name (.) com or name in King or n/a/m/e/.com, it helps shield the name from search.

This is usually useful for sales threads. You don't want a buyer or a potential buyer finding out that the name you want to sell/just sold for 5k was bought for $50 on Namepros
