I am brand new to this and want to start by just learning how to monetize some of my domains. Thought I would start by parking a few of them at namedrive.com. Going thru their tutorial I came upon this statement:

"Your domain resolves once you point it at NameDrive by URL forwarding or DNS change."

Can anyone explain what this means (especially the use of "resolves")? Any other tips/suggestions for getting started would also be appreciated!

It means you either forward your domain name to namedrive.com/yourname or something similar or you point the Domain Name Servers (DNS) to Namedrives servers. This is all done in the control panel with the registrar, Resolves simply means the the change has taken effect and your name now points to their servers

You need to sometimes wait between a few hours to 1-2 days for your Name Servers to propagate (resolve) through the internet. Nowadays it normally takes a few hours.

Thanks for the replies! Is either method preferable ~ i.e., using DNS server change or URL forwarding?

Yes, DNS server change being the most common.

I asked my registrar Weycrest.com last night to sort out the DNS forwarding to NameDrive, all the sites this afternoon came up online.

Looking good.

Now researching how to monetise them, get decent backlinks and some genuine traffic.

You have to get the backlinks to your site before you park it. If you attempt to start linking to your parked pages you will be banned, so be careful.

Thanks, Gil. Much appreciated.

Anyone have any info on avg income from parked sites, or the range that's possible?

Depends on various factors, especially the quality of your domain names.

If you can recover the money you spent to register your names then thats not too bad, because in the mean time you'll be getting wiser in the domaing business especially if you hang around NamePros. By next year you should have gained valuable experience from your sucesses and mistakes.

Guess that means I'll be keeping my day job a bit longer... :td:

Anyway, got my media empire launched today with a few domains each parked on Sedo and namedrive. Let the (l)earning begin!
