Hhhmm... I think you are asking a simple yet complex question here... If you are new to SEO world, then you'll need time to familiarize your self first. Check the url provided by dWhite and it gives you pretty good insight (it's a google SERP actually).

I would suggest not to follow dWhite's advice because using Google is a surefire way to obtain plain wrong/outdated or contradicting information if you don't know anything about the places you should take advice from.

Start with this guide and you'll be well on your way.

Check your site for different browsers [compatibility test]
Check your site for any coding errors [W3C validator can help]
Content on your site should easily be accessible to users and to search bots.
Inter-linking structure should be good.
Add lot of useful and informative content.
Build relevant backlinks.

If you get blur for SEO things, try to find templates that already well optimized for search engines.

Moreover, to increase SERP of your site, try to get backlinks from relevant sites.

first of all you check domain related your sites and meta tags,keyword,description,check your site w3 valiator,you use site map.

Use keywords in tags (h1, h2,...)
Use links with keywords as the anchor text
