One of the things that you need to do is have a project in mind when you register a domain.

Registering a domain and THEN thinking about what to do with it is a common mistake.

That's seriously the best advice there is. Read + ask questions rather than register names for at least the first month. Domaining isn't a rat race and those who do their homework will be well rewarded.

Stop regging names & start reading. It will save you a lot of wasted cash in the long run.

It's really really difficult to not to run out & reg a bunch of names. It's well worth stopping that urge & taking the time to get a background before jumping into the pool.

best of luck

Yeah, make sure you use all of the available tools before registering a domain name. I have wasted a few hundred dollars on domains that I will definitely be dropping. Had I of read a bit first, and used the tools at hand, I would not have registered half the names I have. :red:

As far as picking good names to register...

Sit there and think hard about domain names that could be developed into a successful website. If your domain name has strong keywords this also helps.

One of the best ways to appraise the value of a domain is to take the words in the name and do a google search for that phrase.

For example, type "Dollar Fresh" into Google (the quotation marks are important) and you can see only 3,900 results come up and within the results those two words are fragmented, never used together.
