New Tld's?

there were only 5 in the beginning and then expanded to 9 (or something like that) but when i was registering a new domain yesterday, i found that I had a multitute to choose from. there was .agent (Secret.agent was taken already ) .game .church and all these others. How do these work, and who authorized their release?

I guess your refering to the new.net subdomains..
Those are not real extensions, and they reqiure a special plug-in in order to work..

So they are pretty useless (and worthless)..

.game does in reality lead to a subdomain of new.net
.game.new.net

Registerfly is a reseller of enom or directi (I forget which it was) so no they are not ICANN accretted. The ones you don't think are real, probabally aren't...

RegisterFly is an eNom reseller, but apparently in the process to go ICANN accredited.

Actually they are/were Enom Reseller - But I'm pretty sure they are Icann Acredited as well ..... and about to start using it a bit


Those new extensions aren't a very good Investment though .... IMHO ~

These new.net domain ext require a special plugin be downloaded before they can be seen or accessed... they have some great extensions that I wish were "real", but unfortunately they're not.

I actually think it's somewhat irresponsible of Registerfly to offer them myself.

No, those are fine. All main extensions are fine, and require nothing special.

It's just the new.net extensions that need the plugin. Don't waste your money on those.

well on registerfly it says that over 100 million people already have the plugin...
why do the old tld's not need plgins, or is the plugin already built into mozilla, explorer, netscape etc...?
