the Isle of Man has just opened up their second-level domain and they are hoping to attract the Instant Messaging community (not exactly well publicised though, eh?)

each domain costs £40 to register with the premium one and two letter names going for £995 and £495 per year respectively. nice if your name is K.im , T.im or J.im

I dont know yet about resale value, but I tried to make a siple starter website at www.loan.im to see how the gold keyword works. Now all my .IM domains are alive.

I sent off a email yesterday to Afternic asking them when they will accept .im for listings. Glad you have a hotline!
Only 3 out of the 8 names that I registered are resolved.

I am 99.999% sure that when you put in a name and don't follow up by immediately registering it, it will show as unavailable 1-2 minutes later (sometimes immediately!!)

I've tried 10-20 names as a test and it's happened over and over!

Get this... I put in mediaman.im and gimbly.im just to make sure and they were both gone within 1 minute!!!!!!

Umm, sure their watching if their standing over my shoulder...
actually with this registrar, if you search for a name, it stays with you until checkout, provided it showed available on the first search - if you go back without completing the transaction, it will show the name unavailable...try it again in a few mins as it usually clears after about 5 mins or so ...

Okay let me tell you all again. I emailed the .IM registrar and they told me that if you click on "New Domain" and you search for a domain, if it is available it will be frozen for one hour during which time you can register it. If you choose not to register it, it will simply 'unfreeze' in an hour and then someone else can try and register it. This is supposed to give the user time to register it. To see if a domain is available or not, either use the homepage search, or do a whois search.

No, actually we all just know the same hot keywords. I myself checked availability of bid.im yesterday, but did not register it.

Bid.IM is not even close to worth reg fee. What are you guys Registering?!?! STOP STOP STOP. I think i will delay my cctld site which will start around 10 of these landrushes since all these damn keywords are available! and probably CHEAPER reg fee!!

I have a hard time getting rid of INSURANCE.ac or TRAVEL.gl for XXX mid. and those are premium keywords.

Dont fall into the cctld trap -register only premium keywords.
