new ccTLD available

the Isle of Man has just opened up their second-level domain and they are hoping to attract the Instant Messaging community (not exactly well publicised though, eh?)

each domain costs £40 to register with the premium one and two letter names going for £995 and £495 per year respectively. nice if your name is K.im , T.im or J.im

weird, i was registering wifi.im and fun.im (they were available) then it showed as unavailable.

I am 99.999% sure that when you put in a name and don't follow up by immediately registering it, it will show as unavailable 1-2 minutes later (sometimes immediately!!)

I've tried 10-20 names as a test and it's happened over and over!

Get this... I put in mediaman.im and gimbly.im just to make sure and they were both gone within 1 minute!!!!!!

legend2: While you were searching the registrar might sell out recent search queries and someone saw the domains you searched and saw they were availablea, and beat you to registering them. :td:

I'm gonna put in a bunch of crap domains just to see what happens. BTW, mediaking.im and gimbly.im don't show in the who-is as of yet, but the two names I regged show up. WTF again!

briman is correct - it automatically 'registers' the name and if you don't go through with it or make an error then it is 'frozen' for a period of time - hotel, fun, wifi, mediaman and gimbly all have no whois and will appear again later as available when they are unfrozen. (happened to me earlier and was able to reg the name later)

I got AAA.im and Blackjack.im a few hours ago but they still don't work

They've emailed me a conformation saying that the names were approved.

I guess some domains have to go through an approval process that takes a couple of days.
