New ccTLD - .IM domains available to register!

new ccTLD available

the Isle of Man has just opened up their second-level domain and they are hoping to attract the Instant Messaging community (not exactly well publicised though, eh?)

http://www.iomonline.co.im/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=872&ArticleID=1603812

NO residency restrictions

each domain costs £40 to register with the premium one and two letter names going for £995 and £495 per year respectively. nice if your name is K.im , T.im or J.im

(and to save you some time casino.im and poker.im has already gone, though not to me :'( )

Be aware Sedo want $150 dollars in fees even if domain is parked with them so the domain needs to be worth $225 before you break even if sold through them

What kind of traffic are you getting? My names won't even resolve! Is there a problem with parking them with Sedo!?!? :td:

Every time you change DNS at the .im registry (first time, or even later changing them), the changes take forever. I had a few names take almost 72 hours. It isn't Sedo's fault, becuase when I changed them back over to private NS, the changes took 48 hours that time :td:

I still have only one that will not resolve. It was parked at 1plus.net without resolving for over a week. The Isle of Man registrar blamed it on 1plus. hmmph
So I changed dns to namedrive. Its been there for over a week with the same problem. The name is not resolving and they say its not on their end.....I am not sure what to do next

When I parked Slots.IM it resolved with Sedo about 2 days or so after I parked it there, it's had quite a few visitors and uniques since then....:)

Same with mine. I emailed their support and they said the nameservers resolved. I checked whois, and apparently they did. Yet, parking it would never work... I do not understand, why does it work for some but not for others?

It's good to know that the better names are getting some traffic.

BTW, I sold my first .IM name! Actually, I'd venture to say it was the very first .IM name sold anywhere (not counting co.im, of course). It was RealEstate.im but I can't tell you guys how much since I haven't asked the buyer if it's OK to do so. I really didn't want to sell so soon, but I needed to recover some of the money I blew out registering all these .IM names!!!

I got some offers for my .IM domain, but still will not provide details. Seems >IM started attracting interest in mass media

Great news, please share what you can, thanks, and where the offer came from, etc.

My offer came from a Namepros member but that's about all I can say without his permission.

No kidding, otherwise I would never have got the names I did! I have a good feeling about this extension. It is so easy to remember. Of the multitude of cctlds out there, there are few that have stuck when I heard them... actually only two... tv and pk (pk=player killer to gamers so I just remeberd it).

Being the egocentric creatures we are, something about .im just clicks. I remebered reading someone registered gay.im, as soon as I read it I started to laugh and from the thread other people got a kick out of it as well. The extension is just so easily brandable and memorable with so many words. I think those of us who regged good .im names will be very glad we did.
