Hi, I just paid $9 for domain whois privacy at NetSol but it is still showing my name :td: although it is not showing my contact details anymore. (Thats at Netsol and other places I checked)

Does anyone know if the changes are supposed to be immediate or will I have to wait ? ......or did I miss something ?

Any info appreciated - Thanks :tu:

That's all you get there for your $9. They have a very loose definition of privacy.

Netsol's WHOIS privacy doesn't hide the registrant and contact names.

Private Registration from Network Solutions provides you with alternate contact information to be displayed in your WHOIS listing. However, unlike โ€œproxyโ€ services, you donโ€™t give up your standing as the registrant of the domain name.

You should try DNOA privacy. Great service and benefits.

Thanks Guys, I missed that bit :|

yet another one that will be getting transfered out to Answerable.com where whois privacy is FREE and the reg fee is cheaper than I just paid netsol for privacy that is'nt really privacy IMO !

NetSol need to catch up with the rest of the world regarding their service IMO

I just got their reply >

Thank you for contacting Network Solutions. We are committed to creating the best customer experience possible. ($34.99 for 1 year reg + $9 for privacy - What a bargain !) One of the first ways we can demonstrate our commitment to this goal is to quickly and efficiently handle your recent request.

Based on your concern, please be informed that we cannot hide your name appearing on the WHOIS database. Private Registration can hide your personal information on the WHOIS database such as e-mail address, phone numbers but not the Registrants name

NETWORK SOLUTIONS SUCK !

Their website says > Why Make My Domain Private?

When you register a domain name, ICANN (the organization that oversees the domain name system) requires your name, address, e-mail, and phone number to be listed in the public, searchable WHOIS database. Protect this personal information from spam, unsolicited e-mail, or fraudulent activity. Choose Private Registration to make your domain name private and to keep your personal data hidden in WHOIS.

A bit MISSLEADING I would say if they still show your name !

Rant over :yell:

Netsol does not conceal registrant name, neither Dynadot by the way (for legal reasons).

I read somewhere here that the service would be discontinued.

If you're referring to the DNOA, it's popular, alive and well :)

It was never free, but it's always included in the yearly membership ($20 now I think)

I checked and it's not in the features list?

The DNOA whois privacy was discontinued due to potential problems with people hiding behind the DNOA name.

Also as was demonstrated by a user due to the whois privacy they almost lost names when GoDaddy took over the names from Registerfly. The only way they could prove they had owned the domain was by using a service that showed the whois history of the domain. If GoDaddy decided not to use that as evidence the domain would have been lost.

I agree on both counts, they suck and they are misleading people.

If you're talking about their WHOIS privacy thing:

No registrar is stupid enough to get sued over a $1 to $9 thing.

I was reffering more to their overall prices more than anything... although they should'nt call it privacy if they are still going to show your name ! Thats just plain silly !
