Network Solutions reaches a new low - shocking new technique

Everyone already knows that Network Solutions makes it very hard to transfer away a domain name. They are the only registrar I know that makes you wait a few days to get an email with an auth code.

Now a new technique seems to being going on and that involves sending you the wrong auth code.

TO MAKE MATTERS worse here is what happens when you request support to resolve the fake auth code issue.

They email you asking to update your first and last name so they can escalate the ticket, something that has little to do with the issue at hand. The goal is, change your name and boom you now have your domain locked for 30 days.

I have names there thanks to snapnames.

Figured I should warn people here about the "fake auth code" issue and the "update your profile" trick.

I'm a happy Network Solutions customer.
I haven't had any issues with them.

I'm sorry, I lied :)

This is terrible.
IMO registrars have very low standards from programing point of view.
I did have some issues with auth codes when copy and pasted blank space before auth code. I've got error that code is wrong.
Fix for this (from their side) is so simple, just one line of code :-/

There have been occasions where I see great domain names being sold way below market price which are registered at NS and I walk away.
Simple fix is to STOP using there service all together. No coding necessary.
There's a reason why their prices are lower than other registers... Tricks, scams and horrible tactics...topped by non existing customer service.

I have a couple of domains at Network Solutions that I'm in the process of transferring out now. I have to wait 3 days to get the authorization codes, what a joke. Good thing I allowed enough time to get my names out of there.

Out of all the other registrars out there that I'm in the process of moving domains from, Network Solutions is the only one that I had difficulty getting the codes from.

Thanks for the heads up on them requesting a name change that initiates that 60 day lock. Something everyone should be on guard of with any Registrar.

Update on my domain transfer from Network Solutions. I received the authorization codes on the 3rd day and initiated the domain transfer.

The names were successfully transferred without any other issues.

As long as everything works smoothly, waiting 3 days for authorization codes isn't so bad. I guess you could look at it as a positive security measure for your domains, making more difficult for someone else to transfer your domain out.

I am in the process of transferring domains out of Network Solutions also. Today is the 3rd day after I had requested an Authorization Code.

How did they provide the code to you?

You should get an e-mail with the code(s). Since it's exactly the 3rd day for you, they might come later in the day.
