Netfirms entire grid has been down for hours now.
`````````````
I used to view them a a bit overpriced, but a truly dependable host.
Never once have I seen any downtime (but I don't always check either)
````

I wonder what's going on?

Can you access the main website http://netfirms.com/ ?

Seems to be up for me. I've never used them before. They are one of those companies who love to over sell...

Thanks, for the heads up.

Main site: Just came back up.
My sites: Still down

Total downtime ~3 hours, but they are usually very dependable.

happen to see a coupel of threads about them in other forums too.
Any way, their main site is back online. It might be some serious issue if they had all their servers down.
Lets wait for their response to see what was the issue.

A few people mentioned it was a complete network outage while others said they were being sued for hosting copyright material and were going through each server - which wouldn't make sense to shut off their main site.

Have you tried calling them?

It was a complete power outage, and the back-up generators somehow failed.
That is probably the correct story, and I didn't personally call.

Thanks

I'm surprised they weren't able to bring the servers on faster, or get the generators working? No backup power? Very unprofessional IMO.

I was quoting someone on another forum who claimed to have called in person.

Netfirms is normally very reliable, but I'm sure they did some damage to their business this week.

They seem to be a reliable provider, hope they will be able to explain what has happened to them, timely feedback to clients is one of the best strategies any host can think of.

You are right. Unexpected things may happen with any host. We cannot blame the hosts for such events.
But they should update the clients properly and periodically instead of pushinh them to total darkness.

You are right Matt. I'm more then sure that their current cutomers do receive emails with appoligies
