Nervous about accepting this offer to buy my domains

I received an email asking to purchase a specific domain I have for sale. The email also said they (a broker) would buy any other domains I might have for sale, which I do -- 6 in total.

According to free appraisals from places like estibot.com and my domian registrars the total value of all 6 is about $3000. The person said their client would pay $5000 and would go through escrow. They then requested that I have professional appraisals with trademark infringement verification before proceeding. They recommended the service at http://www.icannaccredited.org which will cost $270.

This all seems very sketchy to me. The original offer came from:
VPSPACE
Switzerland
Lausanne
Sue du Simplon 28

Does anyone have advice? I've never sold a domain before, does this sound legitimate?

Thanks
Diana

Hi Diana,

Its a scam, stay away from them. I suggest you might explore some thread here at namepros about the appraisal scam modus, or a much simpler is to google it and from there you will find almost the same approach as what they did to you. A legitimate buyers do a research before buying a name, No one will depend on any appraisal because the true value of the name was on the buyers eye.

Grace,

Thank you! My "too good to be true" radar went off immediately, but since I've never done this before I just needed some reinforcement!

Yup..another scam email. Their goal is for you to go and buy the appraisal which they'll get paid for. Then they will never buy your domain.

This has been posted a number of times before so good thing you didn't fall for it. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is :)

I confirm it's a scam. Some emails look more professional than others but they are scam. Put the email in the spam folder and move on...my inbox is full of that crap too...you are in good company!

This scam has been around for more than a decade, but guess it's still a business model generating revenue since it continues... In the past I have also received suspicious phone calls but luckily a private whois subscription has put an end to that.
