Sedo have automatically raised buyer 6 's bid from $51,000 to $99,000 - I don't think I would be too pleased to be bidding against myself:?

Or am I missing something:?

Just noticed they have done the same thing with Tractors.com - buyer 9 :!:

http://www.sedo.com/auction/auction_history.php?language=us&auction_id=97&tracked=&partnerid=

Well if they have put that as their maximum bid, somone may know that they have and is shill bidding to bring up the price.

If they aren't pleased I guess they shouldnt have set their max bid so high. No doubt theperson bidding has deep pockets. :snaphappy:

But as their, bidder 6 , bid was the highest previous bid and there were no other bids why jump to $99K - reserve not met!

Would I be cynical in suggesting the reserve might be $100,000

Portals.com - buyer 12, new bidder , bid increased from $12,000 to $50,000

The results on eBay sometimes look like a buyer is bidding against himself but it really is that someone else places a bid and the first bidder is raised to one increment above the new bid, based on his proxy bid. Sedo may also look that way.

But the system certainly can be abused. By insiders or outsiders.

99K for nerd.com? Have I got a deal for you!!

QUOTE]

I think what probably happened here is buyer 4 (or someone else) started proxy bidding at 70,000 and buyer 9 has been proxy bidding already, and as buyer 9 had set the highest max bid only his latest bid shows and the automatic raises are not displayed.

So in fact buyer 9 did not jump to 99,000 but this is just the end result of proxy bidding between two (or more) buyers.

I think it is a total waste of everyones time (and valuable space on the homepage) to have domains of this caliber and not at least start them off somewhere relatively NEAR to the asking price or reserve price.

Did anyone notice at what price tractors.com started ? was it $60

My guess is his reserve is well over $150,000

This looks to me like the auction area is going to end up more of an extra showcase area for the primo names more than anything.

I really hope I am wrong but it just does'nt seem very practical IMO :|

I think Sedo should display intermediate price increments where two or more bidders are using proxy bidding, and round-robin among them.

It should be very easy to write the programming code to do this. That way, it would not display big price jumps or give the impression that the highest time-priority proxy bidder is bidding against himself/herself.

Both Nerd.com and Portals.com started at $70 :) The way I read the rules the domains to not go to auction until reserve is met :?

"Sedo´s auction process is designed to ensure a sale at a price which matches your domain's true market value. An auction may be started when you have received an offer through the Sedo marketplace, which you then choose to accept as the reserve price."

nerd.com | Bidding History
Current Bid: 99,000 USD
Reserve not met

anyone else notice?

must be a premium auction

"The reserve is not shown on the auction page enabling you to evaluate offers below your minimum threshold and gain a better understanding of the domain's current market value. The domain only sells if your reserve is met through the auction and sellers have the option of a seven or fourteen day auction period."

I thought i read on sedo that they start the auction off with the reserve set at the highest bid they got on the site. so the name is guaranteed to sell no matter who else bids. In my opinion, this will piss off the initial buyer that makes that first good bid, to have it thrown in his face by other starting to bid only after they know its going to sell 100%

you are correct in that part from what i understand but thats an automatic auction once a bid is made and seller confirms hes willing to take that price but there is another way to start an auction and that costs money and is more like ebay where you can set reserve price and length of auction

Hope it will sell well :]

apologies, its first time i saw this thread...

I love this domain and it was me that bid $99,000. I had previously bidded at various other prices, but i was less than impressed that sedo moved the high bid to my price.. the correct proxy bid was $51,000 (i think) and I had a hunch the reserve would be $100,000... I wanted someone else to tip it over and allow me time to make my mind up whether or not to go for it. Someone eventually did and as it turned out, $100k was not the reserve. Shame.. if the owner is out there, say hello :)

THere is no fee either you get an offer and move it to auction. or you ask SEDO to evaluate your domain if they think it premium you can have an auction with the reserve not yet met. This is that kind of auction. If you get an offer for $60 on an LLL.info and move it to auction if there were no other bids you have to sell at $60

This whole process means if you get an offer why would you ever accept it you get a free ride to see if you can get more in the auction or take the initial bidders price if you get no other offers

well he would see the reserve was not met so you enter a bid higher, that bid did not meet reserve either so it was added, if he had met the reserve it would have bid reserve, its similar to ebay.

That was unfortunate, I did not think that bid sequence was correct, Sedo should have advised you- did you ask them ?

As for providing Sedo with a potential "premium name" for auction - I offered American.info & Geography.info - not even the courtesy of a reply from [email protected] - obviously not premium. :(
