What's up everybody,

After hearing about domain flipping from some friends and doing some Tik Tok and YouTube research (I know, I know lol), I just recently bought a few domain names and needed some tips for my future purchases.

I bought five domain names and currently own four .dev's and one .app. I'm trying to mainly focus on tech startups, crypto, etc. since the market seems hot at the moment.

I was wondering how can I optimize my domain name choices so I'm making the right purchases, what would be the best marketplace to use that isn't going to kill me on commission fees, and what would be the best site to purchase said domain names.

I'm currently using Porkbun to purchase the domain names and Afternic to post them for sale but after reading a couple threads on here it seems like it might hurt me later on down the line.

Any and all advice to this young newbie would be highly appreciated!

Everyone does it differently...

There's a lot of larger portfolio holders that would suggest using Afternic + SEDO Simultaneously for the most reach and eyeballs.

Smaller portfolio holders specializing in the more brandable assets tend to recommend ATOM, BrandBucket, and BrandPa.

There's also a diverse group of people that leverage multiple marketplaces at once, which can create additional management hurdles when it comes to updating, adding, or removing domains, now having to do it in multiple places.

Each of the above comes with various types of commissions + fees.

Myself, I simply place my domains on NamePros landing pages with a fixed price + make offer option with no commissions or fees to use the landers.

I generally recommend that those new to domain investing stick with a niche they are already familiar with to make the learning curve easier to follow, without coming off the rails.

For instance, if you have been in the coffee business, maybe as a barista, for the last decade, chances are you'll understand the coffee business lingo, business structure, supply chains, demographic opportunities etc. better than others. Allowing you to communicate with a potential buyer more fluently, already having the knowledge of the industry to match wits with them.

Besides that, having vast knowledge in a niche assists with brand development and domain selection to build a brand on.

At the end of the day, we all do it differently and you'll likely get different suggestion from everyone you ask.

Porkbun is a solid choice.

List your domains on the three largest marketplaces, Afternic, Sedo, and Atom, to maximize visibility. Also list on Spaceship SellerHub to surface your names in Namecheap's registration path. Namecheap is the second‑largest registrar, and they are planning to leave the Afternic partner network.

Avoid Brandpa. Since the acquisition it has shown little to no progress and sellers are actually leaving. Even more important: Brandpa will not even accept your four .dev's and one .app domain; it only accepts .com domains.

For your domain lander (that's basically where you set your nameservers to) use Afternic, Sedo, Atom, or DomainEasy. There are other options as well, but these four are enough to get started / to experiment with.

Each marketplace lets you pick a landing-page type. Common options include Buy‑It‑Now (BIN), Make Offer, and Price Request, and some platforms offer Lease‑to‑Own (LTO) as an add‑on.
