Need some urgent advice on responding to an email offer!

I emailed a couple of poker companies the other day offering my domain name (see sig) for sale, not really expecting anyone to reply. Then I checked my email this morning and it turns out one of the (fairly large) companies I contacted is interested.

I have never made a sale before (I only got into selling DNs about a week ago), so I'm a little nervous on how to deal with this... they want me to email them back with an asking price cause it's company policy that they don't bid or something. How should I approach this? Also, how much should I be asking? I made a thread in the appraisal section but no one really responded.

Any advice/general tips would be greatly appreciated! If this is supposed to be in the Newbie section then I apologize in advance.

I am not a 'poker' domain guy, so my first advice would be don't send anything yet. You have done the right thing asking other domainers.

My second piece of advice would be for you to go into the chat rooms a couple of times today and ask for advice there. Domainers are 'generally' helpful, they will advise you how to word your response, etc., as well as giving advice on value.

Finally, congratulations, many domainers I know have not had any interest in their domains for a whole year from starting, you have done remarkably well even to get interest in such a short time.

Keep it up! :)

If you do sell use escrow.com or another reputable payment center, make sure they don't do the chargeback thing. Good luck to you .

This is one of those occasions that you do pay for an appraisal.
Pay for an appraisal from eg afternic and then send that appraisal price to the company enquiring to purchase. The appraisal will give authority to your negotiations. Just go one step at a time.

I would just respond quickly with a reasonable price. Along the lines of,

"Thank you for your interest. The price for this domain is $1500. I can accept payment by PayPal to (paypal addy) or Escrow.com."

Also, remove it from places where you have it listed for sale with a different price.

Thanks for the fast responses guys!

Most appraisals (Sedo and AfterNIC) take a couple of days and a fair bit of cash, so I probably won't bother with them. I'll follow RJs approach and email them later tonight.

I'll be asking for $2000. Is that a reasonable sum or am I aiming too high?

They just sent me an email:

Thank you very much for your offer but we decided to to pursue it.

I hope we'll have the chance to work together in the future.

I'm guessing it's a typo and they're not interested anymore?

Should I email them back with a lower offer? Or did I lose the sale :(

I think they have blown you out....at least you did not follow my advice and waste some money on an appraisal!

It depends on how you worded your initial offer, but I'd send them an email back after a week or so with the following...

Thank you for your reply. I am somewhat negotiable on this domain. My offer to sell at $2000 was merely a starting point to our negotiations. Please let me know if you would like to make a counter-offer on PokerThrone.com. Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,
Newlungs

This is actually them laughing and being polite at the same time. Honestly, I send that to rediculous offers that come in about my domain names. To me its a joke, sorry bud. Good luck with your domain name, you may just have to sit on it for a bit.

Yep i second, now you have your foot in the door with this company do not let it end there. Reply with the above or something similar. All depends how motivated you are.. does it make good money being parked or affiliated if not sell remember a bad domainer is one who thinks his domains are worth millions. As long as you make a profit that it good domaining :)

Best of luck

I would recommend not using the actual domain in your posts;
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PokerThrone.com&btnG=Google+Search

Use spaces or paranth or something other than the domain. As you can see, the use exactly of the domain in your posts yields a quick search for your intentions...

Yes, this is a lesson for all of us. The buyer does a google search and the third result shows that you're selling the domain to others for $250, but offered to a genuinely interested party for $2,000.

"I'm selling this domain for $250, but for you my friend, a special friendly price of $2,000!"

OK, jokes aside, good luck with it. Look at the bright side: It's a good name, and already someone was interested in it. Be cool and you'll sell it.
