ok- got a bunch of names, tv's and non-tv's- i want to develop some to keep, some to sell.
i know i cant do this alone. been there, done that.
i am working on a project now that is taking me forever to pull together. i am a busy busy mom- but i want to make this happen.
i have had partners before, people on the web i never met. and it worked good for what i was doing. but it was for one network, all under the same umbrella, all the same subject matter-
i have different venues now i want to grow. i have different things that need to be done. i am NOT a tech person- i lack there terribly.

what are you doing- do you develop one site at a time, and attempt to sell? are you running a business via several developed sites, and are you doing it alone?
i am in the stages of getting my smashfactory.com, my new venture, and anything else, to fall under my cranberrymedia, with the media domain being the main umbrella for all ventures.

i am thinkin of takin on a partner of sorts- but again, when you work with others, things can get sticky too- i have definitive idea for my stuff and how it needs to be executed.

blah- i hate this part.

I am in a slightly simular situation ........ lack of skills to get projects going , all i can say is i will only get a parter nearby to me ...... so i could discuss things face to face , i feel that is important, maybe a notice up at the local uni or college may help you find what you need, i may even puy an ad in the paper yet ??? until then i just wait and if need be pay to get something up and running .... just a suggestion

Problem with partners, unless the common vision is shared by all, you can easily get sidetracked on differences of opinion.

I would recommend going to rentacoder.com or finding someone local (there are enough web designers in MD to give lawyers a run for their money) and pay them to develop your vision. This once your vision is up and running, bring in other folks as needed.

This comment all depends on you having minimal capital to get the site to beta or version 1.0

I would suggest working out the details firmly before inviting anyone else in. Have a contract, so that there is no room for confusion, either in the beginning, or at the end of the partnership.

I promise, you'll be happy that you paid close attention to detail.

I would not bring on a partner that is a coder when you can find some perfectly good coders who you could hire and fire at will if they don't perform.

If you want to find someone, my business partner uses a very good company in Baltimore. They are reasonable. They do exactly what you want. You live close enought to take advantage of them. I'm sure they would drive to Frederick or Westminister to meet you.

If you want their name, email me, I will get it to you.

yeah, i know i can get coders- someone on the board actually helped me with one of my set ups- its more than that tho i guess- i just need more hours in the day i guess- if i could sit here for 16 hours it would help :) i could get so much more done- be able to run the sites i want to develop-

I would have to agree with Local here.

Find a code who you can trust. Have them code automated sites for you....then only use them for updates on a needed basis. Let your sites run themselves and then you don't have to worry about it.

I actually have gotten so lazy lately, that I haven't even bothered my brother, who typically my coder (for pay, the bastard), and have just been setting up automated blog/wordpress sites, adding ads, affiliate code and what not. SEO the things and see what happens.

I have it down to a routine now, set up name, wait 48 hours for it to propagate to my server. Install wordpress, upload zipped file with all my favorite pluggins, turn on, add rss feeds and ads and let them run. I add links to them on all the sites I own, and google picks them up.

From there clicks start coming. An example is my DallasLawyer.tv. I basically set it up, added adsense and let it go. People are finding it and clicking on the google ads. Since Dallas lawyers tend to pay well for google ads, the clicks are decent as well. average click around 50 cents to 5 dollars.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I dev one site at a time... my intent is not to sell (though everything is for sale -with the right offer) but to run businesses. GeoTourism.TV, for example, esthablishes me as a Geo-Geek which leads to geo consulting work, speaking engagements, etc.. GalleryGuide.Tv -paid artist & gallery promotions. I sell a product via my HandyMassager.com site, local work comes from IdyllwildTV.com, and so on.

Eventually I want to put up enough 'real' sites that combined would form an attractive network for video ads. But the goal, in the end, is to explore all the options a dev'd biz site has... from taking on independent contractors to 'work their markets' as direct sales affilliates, to pitching the sites/concepts to VCs, to selling, leasing or franchising the sites to folks that want to make a living online in addition to, or instead of, just buying a domain name with some ppc traffic.

Ohh, and Yes... "I'm doing it alone" (no pun intended) :hehe: .

DallasLawyer.tv is huge.

RSPD powered parts of Lawyers.com for years - To quote "Rush" - The Big Money!

I own DallasLawyers.tv so good to know.

Go check any Yellow Pages in the country. Lawyers is one of the largest sections and either a lawyer, contractor, or moving company buys the cover.

Escorts also huge. BTW

Sorry, what do you mean by huge? Nice clicks and all, but I wouldn't consider it a cash cow. Although, even on a sunday, it just earned $2, so can't complain much. Guess people need lawyers after Saturday night partying.

Could be too early though, or too late at night for me, so just not sure what you meant.

Lawyers pay big money for advertising. I haven't look at the click bids, but on the two large lawyer websites they pay big bucks to be on there. Also go look in your yellow pages. Those full page ads aren't cheap.

is that your development plan showbiz? so its more of a template set up, no actual content, or interaction?

Sort of yes, sort of no. On some of them, about half roughly, I do add my own content that I find interesting on a daily basis. But for the ones like DallasLawyer.tv, I know literally zip about dallas legal issues, so it is better to just let it automatically generate.

Besides, it's earning money, so I really can't complain too much or feel bad about not developing something I have no experience with. If I lived in Dallas, and understood their laws, then I would dev, but I don't so meh.

The template I use, WordPress, does have a forum system, and I am working on getting that running as a test on one of my tv sites to see what happens. Aside from that, like most sites these days, interactivity is thought comments, user input, forums, and them clicking on links for more information. With the emphasis on them clicking links. To me, if they aren't clicking paid links or buying a product, they are just eating my bandwidth. So I do "dev" with the idea that I want to drive as much traffic as possible to click on what makes me money.

I do still have the complaint I opened another thread about.......I am getting adsense clicks and I still don't know where they are coming from. Not on any of my channels, which I am a stickler for using, but that adsense account has only tv's in it, so I know it's from one of them. Again, if anyone knows how to find out which one, please fess up because I need to monetize it badly. Yesterday came in at about $9, and I desperately want to know from where.
