Need RELIABLE registrar that I can talk to on the phone....

It seems like there's something against ALL the registrars. Am I right??

- 1and1
- NetFirms
- GoDaddy
- DotEasy

NameCheap isn't bad, but I can't ring someone's neck quite as easily since they offer NO telephone support at all. For a serious site, I'd think that this is a must and NameCheap couldn't be a real possibility.

InternetBS.net seems like the best, but most of the stuff I've found almost look like self-promotional "reviews".

What do the PROS use is what I need to know.

Thanks!

I use GoDaddy, and one of the reasons I like them is their phone support. I've always been able to get someone on the phone - I have an account manager, but before that, I could always reach someone at the regular toll-free number.

People will find things to complain about at each registrar - for example, I find Moniker's domain management control panel incredibly frustrating, and two times I have called there and NOT been able to get anyone on the phone. But GoDaddy does a lot of upselling on their checkout screens, which is annoying. I'm used to it, so it hardly fazes me now.

I feel your pain. Unfortunately, I've never used most of the registrars you listed and I have no idea about NameCheap, but yes, phone support is something basic that most big companies should provide for their customers.

I hope you get it figured out!

Welcome to the forum.

As with anything there are pros and cons to each registrar out there, and any single company being better than the rest is quite honestly, like most things in this industry, subjective. I myself use GoDaddy. For me personally, I feel their prices are more than competitive, including renewals, and they tend to offer plenty of discount codes as well. Additionally, though I have rarely had any issues to warrant contacting support in the years I have been with them, the few times I did need to call I was satisfied with the level of customer service and the overall resolution.

That aside, GoDaddy is not exempt from their own share of problems and hiccups, which tend to keep them in the news receiving more negative press than that of any accolades or positive press. As well, there are other highly regarded registrars many members here use, who are also said to be equally, if not more, dependable and reliable. Some members even use more than one registrar, and in some cases, several.

In the end, it comes down to what it is you are needing from a registrar, along with which registrar you feel most comfortable when you consider all aspects of what they offer. Services, pricing, customer care, etc. If you truly have no knowledge about any of them, you may find it beneficial to first visit their respective websites to view the services and pricing, read reviews, etc; and don't be afraid to contact them via phone or even email, to inquire as to why they believe they should be the company you choose for your business needs. There is nothing wrong with giving the registrars the opportunity to first earn your business, before you actually make your final decision.
:imho:

Starting to sound like an obvious choice.

I'd like to hear from anybody who's actually used NetFirms or InternetBS.net ...

Those both seemed to have their advantages. They're both about 33% cheaper than GoDaddy, both offer free whois privacy (tho i can't figure out if they're truly free for life or just first year), and still manage to have some kinda phone support.

I want to believe!!! But not without some REAL reviews. And I'm typically against companies that put too much into marketing :hearts::gn:
...but sometimes... business is business, I guess. :talk:

I've never even *heard* of InternetBS.net. I don't know if I could trust a company with "BS" in its name and hosted on a .NET.

As far as free WhoIs, if you're trying to sell domains, is it really in your best interest to have privacy protection? Quite often people will contact you through your WhoIs email, so if these are names you're looking to sell, you may want to rethink that. Of course, for adult names or any developed sites where you want to limit spam, privacy protection can come in handy.

I don't know how much cheaper you could get than GoDaddy, especially when you use the coupon codes. If you've found a great deal, kudos, but remember, you get what you pay for in terms of customer service, security, and reliability.

godaddy has good phone support.

To me, Godaddy is the best. In addition to good prices and regular discounts, I have no complaint about their customer service, which has been very helpful the few times I have needed it.

The majority of my domains are at Godaddy and I am moving the domains I have with two other registrars to them.

Dynadot. If you buy a lot you get bulk pricing,or even super bulk pricing.
And otherwise then with Godaddy you don't get all those ads about other stuff, you are not looking for.
But I have domains at Godaddy also and for a certain extension Moniker., and internet.bs, and others. Sometimes it's cheaper for a certain countryextension to look elsewhere then the usual ones.
Internetbs.net was earlier internet.bs. The cheap prices come from
the fact that it is in the Bahamas.
Also Resellerclub and resellers of them, and some interesting promotions they have sometimes. A well-known reseller is Whiz.in

I have more than 100 domains at Netfirms/Tucows at the moment. Been with Netfirms for about 2.5 years now.

I haven't encountered any issues so far. I had no issue with transferring out either. Have transferred out about a hundred domains or so last year, and they transferred out just fine.

So overall, i haven't had any issues (yet) that required me some kind of phone support. So i can't comment on the phone thing.

Their whois privacy is not a separate subscription. As long as your domain is registered with Netfirms, the privacy stays with it as well. You can switch it on and off anytime you want.

I don't feel comfortable exposing the email address i use in whois where the registrar also sends the account changes warnings. If that email gets hacked, i might not get the warnings that my account is already in the process of being stolen.

What i do is put my separate contact email on the webpage of the domain itself (in image format to block the bots). A lot of buyers have contacted me that way.

And besides, if a domainer is interested in your domain and looking it up on Whois, i'm sure he understands that whois privacy email addresses automatically forwards to the owner's real email add. For ordinary buyers, they will first check out the webpage of the domain and see what's in there, and then they see your email on the page as well.

Will buyers trust a seller with whois privacy? I sell via Sedo escrow most of the time. And Sedo certification requires that i give them my real postal address. So should be no big deal for a buyer who is seriously interested.

The "BS" stands for Bahamas. Internet.bs is a top notch registrar.

Name.com has real people handling their support. Good Registrar. Support only 9-5 M-F.

Most of accredited registrars are professional enough to have phone support. Something like eurodns, namecheap or godaddy should be yours.

Godaddy's phone support is fantastic - there's always someone to help! If I were you, I wouldn't go near '2and2' at all!

I did, indeed, go with GoDaddy.

I didn't like their signup page. Took me at least 3 or 4 times to get it right for one reason or another (personal or business? only business has private registration? business reg is $5 extra? back to personal? enter coupon... yadda yadda).

But the control panel dealy looks pretty clean to me. Actually looks better than namecheap if you ask me.

Oh well, I think I'll be a happy camper. :gl:

Thanks, guys!
