I've been learning the business of domaining for around six months now, but only really started buying and selling a couple months ago.

However, I've made basically no base profit right now, so I need help with a couple questions that I'm wondering.

1. Is it possible to start domaining in this day and age with no money? Right now my only source of profit is to register domains or buy really cheap domains and flip them for a profit, but I haven't really been selling much (and they aren't bad domains either).

2. Can you make money doing what I've stated above? Are registering domains worth it, or is it better to just buy nice domains from other resllers?

3. Do you basically need to invest in a category of domains like LLLL.com's or premium keyword.coms to make good money?

Any help regarding these issues would be greatly appreciated. I want to make some money doing this but it's just not working out...

In a word, yes. You can make money in the current domain market. I would recommend specializing in a specific niche of the domain industry and concentrate on becoming the leader in that niche. Learn everything there is to know within that sector and resist the temptation to jump aboard every trend that comes along. Stay focused on your strengths. That's my advice.

There are so many different categories in this industry, each with it's own unique factors and lessons to be learned. Trying to dabble in all of them would be a recipe for failure in my opinion.

For example, I specialize in compound keyword domains. I settled into that category a few years back and I try not to stray from it. I'm good at finding them, and I became good at moving them. It didn't happen overnight either. A few years back, I came up with a plan and I stuck with it. At the beginning I gave all of them away for free so I could build a newsletter list. The newsletter list created opportunities and now I have a client list. The next step was developing a blog to increase the visibility of my services. Later next year I plan on launching my own marketplace so I can sell my names directly via an automated process. Again, all of this centered around compound keyword domains. What you need is a specialty, a plan and the patience to see it through.

The first step is picking your destination and then point yourself in that direction.

try regging names that might get small traffic and park them for income, Stay away from madeup generic/brandables ,reselling domains is tough with millions of names for sale, with small traffic you can make the reg fees back plus a small profit and with traffic more apt to get an enduser offer. read up on overture vurr and some of the other traffic trackers, I have found some 3 word domains to be profitable
good luck
