Need help in obtaining a domain

Hi people,

I've found a dot com domain that I really would like to have for a website that I'm developing but it's already registered (what's new?).
Currently it's in the Grace Period of Godaddy.
Only the dot com of this name is registered.
What would be the best way to obtain it once it becomes available (IF it ever becomes available. I have alternatives but they're second choices).

Backorder?

Try to win the auction at Godaddy with the chance of paying way too much/losing it to another domainer?

Register the .net and wait for the sharks to offer it to me?

Your help is very much appreciated!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
It will first be made available on Godaddy auctions. Roughly a month post expiry or so.
You have the opportunity to place a bid there before it drops.

Monitor the name once it appears on Godaddy auctions. Wait until the last 5 min of the auction and bid! This will give people last chance of spotting the name if they haven't seen it yet.

This also doesn't give people much time to consider bidding higher if you bid too early.

Just don't forget to bid! I've missed many names because of this :(

I have always hated the godaddy drop structure. It will be kind of pricy, but i recommend using the backorder service. You will be first unless others are backordering it and have the chance to get it cheaper than if it goes to auction

If you mean the GD backorder service that has become irrelevant and a huge waste of time. Unless you mean backorders on Snapnames, Namejet, etc? The problem is sometimes you like a domain but not enough to pay $59 to $69 or whatever for it.

Is it really a waste of time? I don't mind paying 50 bucks to obtain the domain.
Or is GD so crooked they automatically send it to auction because the potential salesprice is higher than the amount they ask for a backorder?

I'll make a bid in the last 5 minutes of the auction (if nobody made a bid before me).
Thanks for all your help!
