Domaining Since the beginning of the year; still a newbie.

1. What is the biggest challenge you faced joining the domain industry?
a. As I'm learning more, I'm making smarter purchases, but feeling like you've "made up for" those initial rash-newbie investments can be hard--although nothing is more liberating for a newbie domainer than the first time you let a crappy name expire ;)
b. That being said, I'm still finding making sales, even on the good names, difficult at times. I'm on about a million forums, but they seem to be long on sellers and short on buyers.

2. What did you find the easiest to understand?
Getting a grasp on what makes a name good/valuable was very easy (unfortunately I dove into some purchases before I finished my initial research)

3. How often do you spend a week with domain names?
Pretty much daily.

4. Have you sold any domains yet? If so for how much and did you make profit?
Sold a few for modest profit. Some of my best names are not promoted as for sale b/c I intend to develop a few.

5. What are you confused about still?
The best way to find buyers (seems like they mostly find you; i.e, a lot of luck involved, even w/ good names).

6. Would an eBook on all of this help you? Would you buy one or want it free?
Well, free would help;) ...honestly though, I'm not sure of the value-added w/ an ebook, mainly because there are so many forums like this one where experienced people are very helpful and will basically answer any questions you have. Some are nicer and more detailed than others, but basically you simply need to put the question out there on a forum like this one and someone will give you a hand. It's kinda hard to improve upon that IMO.

7. Did you register names or buy them from other users?
Both.

8. If you registered where at and why?
ccTLDs at EuroDNS (very happy w/ them); unfortunately most of my generic extension are w/ 1and1 (my single, greatest newbie mistake).

9. Do you think that it is fun selling domains?
Yes

10. What programs do you use regarding domains (such as Overture, URLtrends, ect)?
Trying DomainersEdge.com--new to it; although it looks promising, the jury's still out.

10. Do you understand expired domains?
I think so, but then again I'm a newbie.

11. Why did you get into the domain industry?
Mainly because it seemed like something I could get into in my spare time (it is) without negatively affecting home and work (so far so good :hehe: )

1. What is the biggest challenge you faced joining the domain industry?
Finding names that will grow in value but are still atainable at a fair value.

2. What did you find the easiest to understand?
Registrars and how pushes work.

3. How often do you spend a week with domain names?
Too much to mention. Just make up a really big number.

4. Have you sold any domains yet? If so for how much and did you make profit?
Yes...lots over the past 2 years and profit has been good.

5. What are you confused about still?
Drops mostly but I have caught a few good ones. Also how to research well for drops is tough.

6. Would an eBook on all of this help you? Would you buy one or want it free?
I would want it free mostly because I wouldn't pay for information I feel I can obtain through more research of my own.

7. Did you register names or buy them from other users?
I do both. Lately I have hand-regged more names than 3rd party purchase.

8. If you registered where at and why? (It not this does not apply)
I use Moniker mostly because they are very secure with exceptional tools and support.

9. Do you think that it is fun selling domains?
Only on days I make money.

10. What programs do you use regarding domains (such as Overture, URLtrends, ect)?
OVT, Google, URLtrends, and marketleap

10. Do you understand expired domains?
Yes I feel I do however I don't feel I understand how to research the thousands of names well.

11. Why did you get into the domain industry?
To make money. My first domain was in 96. However I built sites then and wasn't a domainer. It wasn't until 2 years ago that domaining became full time for me. I missed the boat so to speak.

Not sold any yet =/. No one seems to buy.
5. What are you confused about still?

I don't know nothing about selling domains.. :(

All i know is, if someone wants to buy your domain, you give them your pass to your domain account or whatever, switch the domain payments to the buyers paypal address and call it good..

1. What is the biggest challenge you faced joining the domain industry?
Finding good unregistered domains, and finding buyers.

2. What did you find the easiest to understand?
The different TLDs and ccTLDs.

3. How often do you spend a week with domain names?
1 hour, since I normally just reg something if I think it would work (and don't really bother finding a buyer), otherwise I just chat on NamePros and learn more about domaining.

4. Have you sold any domains yet? If so for how much and did you make profit?
Not yet.. I haven't made any efforts to.

5. What are you confused about still?
The entire deal with expiring domains. I know that you can backorder a domain, but I'm not completely sure on any of the details.

6. Would an eBook on all of this help you? Would you buy one or want it free?
If many people recommended it, I would definitely take a look. For free, of course :)

7. Did you register names or buy them from other users?
I only register names, but so far I've purchased one from someone else via the NP auction (tradepile.com, I think it has great potential)

8. If you registered where at and why? (It not this does not apply)
Domainsite is the best registrar I've used. True, I haven't used many, but it's much easier to use than godaddy (and cheaper, better support, faster DNS updates), and from what I've heard regfly as well.

9. Do you think that it is fun selling domains?
I wouldn't know, haven't sold any.

10. What programs do you use regarding domains (such as Overture, URLtrends, ect)?
Overture, whois, domaintools (suggestions), google search, DN Finder

10. Do you understand expired domains?
Not really, just a little. I know about the 5 day grace period, blablal..

11. Why did you get into the domain industry?
I became pulled in.. at first I just joined NamePros on a recommendation by a friend, just to see what it was like. Once I made a few hundred posts, I could not NOT become a domainer. I already learned a lot, and besides, I needed domains for my website.

I hope this helps!
