The first thing you can do to help yourself get started with domaining is to:

1. Learn and research first. Learn as much as you can, the basics and what the domaininig field is all about.
2. Do not invest before you learn every basics of domaining (eg. what makes a good domain, which domain extension to go with and etc.).
3. Start small. It is better to have couple of quality domains than large portfolio with crappy/garbage/pigeon-shift domains (lol, you get the picture; right!).
