Nation Of Pot Smokers

Been having a conversation on another forum regarding pot vs alcohol. My reponse to whether we'd lost the war on drugs (we have) was (in part):

One of the main differences between being intoxicated and being high is: if you're high, you're usually too lazy to get up off the couch to drive I think in that case, lethargy is a good thing :D

I think cannabis smokers are less likely to get belligerent too, as those who drink alcohol often do.

My grandmother was an alcoholic and tho I have consumed alcohol in my lifetime, it's been a rare and generally unpleasant experience for me (I hate being tipsy). On the other hand, I've also "inhaled" on occasion (tho haven't in a few years now) and would generally feel safer in a nation of pot smokers than a roomful of drunks.

What are your views?

You don't see anyone smoking pot trying to start fights. More like the opposite. I know quite a few pot smokers and they are fantastic people. The the only problem with that is if you are in a room full of pot heads, then get out your pen and notepad because the ideas that will come flying high will be worth quite a bit.

I've known quite a few people who do both and I'd much rather be around them when they're high. Drunks are downright irritating. It's like taking care of adult sized toddlers. Concerning driving ability... if anything, people who are high drive more carefully than they would if they weren't high. An intoxicated person is incapable of driving carefully.

well i'm a nice drunk and am a quite pothead.
i think alcohol makes you angry and that but weed chills you out, only downside is weed makes you less in-control and could get you into more serious drugs like acid or opiates.

I don't buy the gateway-drug theory.. people who will try other drugs probably would have whether they'd smoked pot first or not.. I know plenty who smoked pot that never "graduated" to the harder drugs.. some do/will and some don't/won't.. I don't think marijuana is the incentive tho.

Well, you brought it up, so here is how I feel!

I have been "smoking" for well over 30 years now, and although I have taken a drink it is on very rare occasion (maybe a half a glass of wine in 6 months - lol)
I agree with the above poster that Pot is NOT a gateway drug, and believe me when I tell you, I know what I am talking about here.

I can only ask you to think about one statistic - have you ever heard how many "Pot" crashes there were versus how many drunk driving crashes? I dont think so, but that is my opinion.

I consider myself to be a responsible, caring, and very intelligent and I have a great life with a nice house (2700 sq. ft. with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths) and I make a decent living too, and I also have a successful relationship with my wife and our 3 kids.

I seen the ticker on fox news yesterday that estimated there are 4.1 million pot smokers in the US. I think this number is way to low. I struggle to think of one person I know who doesnt smoke pot. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it whatsoever. As for alcohol, you can keep it. There are to many side effects including hangovers which I can do without. Thanks for the post!

Honestly, I personally do not consider pot to be a "drug"

Marijuana is naturally produced and does not need to be "processed"
Whereas, cocaine as well as alchohol has to be "processed" or "produced"

I would love to have 2 people about the same height/weight sit down with $20 USD worth of pot and another $20 USD worth of Jack Daniels, and lets see who can walk away from the table in an hour - lmao
Or who can operate heavy machinery, or drive a car, or speak without slurring - lol

C'mon, I will show up anywhere, anytime to prove my point.

Regardless, I obviously feel very strongly about this, I should stop now before I get into trouble!

Alcohol is very deadly, and it succeeds at what it does because of the double standard of what a drug is. Alcohol is a drug, so if you're against "drugs", you should also be against alcohol. Alcohol takes a damn toll on your body. Too much alcohol will finish your liver, clog arteries with fat(artherosclerosis), kils brain cells etc. The main bad side of weed is short term memory loss(from heavy cannabis use), but if you stop for a few months, it basically returns to normal. Also, about 3 papers have come out with research showing there is no known link between marijuana and lung cancer. I am pro pot(i went to boston hempfest last summer and it was fun ), and i like alcohol too, but you have to respect alcohol way more, or else, it'll put you in your place. If alcohol is legal, and yet so deadly, there is not 1 good reason why pot should be illegal.

The simple fact is that if pot was legalized everyone would grow it and the govt. would not get tax money. They should package pre-rolled doobies like cigs. according to variety and potency to make it easy to purchase. I would buy a pack of 20 a week no problem if it was available. I dont know why they just dont do it already. Maybe it is because people will resort to pot for ailments instead of prescription drugs. Its all about dinero in the end!

Funny that no one grows their own tobacco, yet the argument that people will grow their own pot is probably valid.. as you say, it's mostly about lost revenue in the form of taxes, etc. Anyone ever heard of marijuana tax stamps btw?

To be fair, I just read an article that says that marijuana is much more potent these days than it was in the 60's or even the 80's.. some THC levels have been recorded at over 30%, which is extremely potent. Admissions to emergency wards due to marijuana is thus on the rise, according to the article. If I can find the link again, I'll post it.

I'm not advocating the use of marijuana by the way as it's illegal, but the viewpoints here have been interesting so far.

Haha you sure got that right, even my guards would be pissed off at me for not letting them drink alocohol off duty lol thus, I'd be hung or sumthin like that haha.
