Howdy,

I'm currently on the lookout for some good domains and I was thinking about buying a nice one that is related to the nanotechnology.
Well like most of you I read the the dnjournal and I haven't seen any nano related domain sales there, but what can we expect in the future ?

Has anyone here on the boards sold a "nano domain" already?

The European Union started a science plan one year ago agreeing to spend 50 billion euro (70 billion usd) to stimulate science during a six year program ending in 2013.

Most of the money is spent in four areas:

1. ICT (9 billion euro)
2. Health (6 billion euro)
3. Transport (4 billion euro)
4. Nanotechnology (3.5 billion euro)

So nanotech is considered an important technology, but still needing a lot of R&D and just starting to emerge as an economical market. From a commercial point of view the market is not very mature yet, but it will be in the near future without a doubt.

Although I wouldn't expect a quick flip, strong keyword nanotech-related domains are a good buy imo.

You deserve a medal if you can find even a marginal nanotech name that has not been registered. Believe me, I have tried.

Also, nanotech right now is in the pits. Most of the nano companies have done so poorly that venture capitalists no longer fund them. Even the word nanotechnology has been replaced by "small tech" in many circles beacause nanotech companies have been such poor investments.

Read this blog from the guy who actually wrote the book on investing in nanotech before you start buying up these names. Start at the bottom with the March 7th entry and work your way up.

i've reg'd a few recently ( tip: buy newscientist! ), but in reading about nanotech, many of the scientists involved are fairly dismissive about getting anything to market any time soon ( regarding the tech they are developing anyway )

i've not reg'd many though, as i anticipate needing to hold them for at least a decade. even then i think it will be more industry/medical focused, not direct to consumer.

I agree. It will be at least 10 years, probably much longer. Better to stick with areas that are experiencing tremendous growth NOW and into the future such as:

- United Arab Emirates

- Climate Change/Go Green/Alternative Energy

- Asian Casino Gaming
