Hi-

I changed my nameserver for a few domains oh, about 10 mins. ago at GoDaddy, but they aren't showing up at my parking companies. I did add them to my parking services as well. 10 mins. doesn't seem like a long time, but when I have previously changed nameservers from GoDaddy acct. before it was immediate. I am not sure if this delay is normal or not. I rechecked at Godaddy to make sure all was correct and have received confirmation email from GoDaddy.

How long should I wait before contacting GoDaddy?

peace,
Vik

GoDaddy explicitly states that it takes 4-8 hrs for the update to take effect :)

ahhhhh yes. I do recall that I was surprised the first time I did it, because it was immediate and I was expecting it to take 6-8 hrs. I guess I just got used to it being so quick that I forgot all about it!

Thanks for joggin' my noggin' Krossat :) rep added

can take up to 24 hours in some cases.

Much shorter most of the time.

I found that it never resolves in 10minutes. Can take up to 8 hours depends on the registrar.

Theoretically the dns propagation can take up to 48 hours, but in fact it's usually just a couple hours

This depends on many things. The first is how fast the registrar sends updates to the upstream DNS.

Seconly and more importantly is the TTL of the domain from the authoritative DNS server.

If this is set to 24 or 48 hours, even if the root servers are updated, if the DNS server you use resolved that domain within the TTL then it will wait until the TTL expires before it requeries the root.

Just remember...

When it's done for you, it doesn't mean that it's done for the rest of the world. ISP's update the DNS on different intervals. When you saw it go live, your ISP had made the update to take the changes into account.

It'd be good to ask some other people around the world if they see the changes so you can get an idea of how long it takes for the nameserver to propagate.
