Nameserver change weirdness

I have a domain at iDotz but I'm trying to use the hosting from GoDaddy. I changed the nameservers to ns3.secureserver.net and ns4.secureserver.net, and for a while the iDotz parking page continued to appear. Then, a "server not found" error started showing.

Over at GoDaddy, I had already updated the hosting account to reflect new domain. I can't access the ftp either (can't resolve server). Is this normal?

You need to wait a few hours for the NameServer change to propegate.

wait 30 minutes and/or use a web proxy to access it, it might be your cache.

The cache is not the problem if the status of the page (404, 200) is able to change.

Yes, but it seems that the change did propagate, because the site changed from the parked page to blank. Or is this normal?

It can take up to 72 hours for DNS to fully propogate. You should still be able to access your hosting account even if your domain doesn't resolve yet so you can upload files, work on your site, etc. Check with your host about that.

You should ftp to your site's ip address instead of using the domain name. This might be helpful while you're waiting for the nameserver changes to fully propagate.

I received the following email from GoDaddy:

Thank you for contacting Online Support. Please contact your registrar to make sure your domain's zone file has been correctly updated. At this stage, it would appear this is necessary.

What does this mean? Sorry for the newbish question.

bump :(

Sounds like it's propegating ok to me, propegation is usually pretty fast these days (minutes), the problem is with GoDaddy IMO. I know it's a no-brainer, but check you've got the nameservers right, could always try ns1 and ns2 instead of ns3 and ns4, see if that works.

I received the following from GoDaddy:

"You would need to have your current registrar setup an A-record and have it point to the IP address of your hosting space, which is 208.109.78.133 in order for your site to resolve."

I asked iDotz how to do this. Does anyone know what they are talking about?

Some registries charge extra for the ability to manage DNS not sure about idotz. The A record is just pointing it to the IP rather than a nameserver. If the site is of any importance I would learn from this experience and find myself a real host. I've seen some pretty screwed up control panels for hosts over the years and godaddy's takes the cake. Thats outside of the fact that being on one of their servers would be like everyone at the superbowl on Sunday riding home in the same cab.

Based on the details provided so far, there's a possibility the DNS records of
the domain name might not be configured the way they're supposed to. You
don't seem to be familiar with how DNS works, so could you perhaps post the
domain name here for some people to do a DNS check and give feedback?

:( :( :(

I just got this email back from idotz (copied and pasted directly from the email):

"That is a littel strange for a hosting ocmpany to say that. All you need are two nameservers for the domain to resolve to their servers. What they are asking you to do will require you to purchase either web-forwarding service (redirect to a single IP address/URL and only one email address forwarding) or get DNS@dot service that allows for multiple redirects and email forwardings along with full DNS management. Look for the order links in the service area of your DMA (Domain Manager Account)."

Do I have to pay for a new service??
