Hello,

Just want to share this because a lot of domainers (including me) have fallen for cheap deals at these shady registrars and then we have to pay ransom of approximately USD 20 (per domain) to be able to unlock and transfer out our domains from these registrars.

Always check the knowledge-base of every registrar and confirm whether they charge for domain push and/or transfer out or not.

Some registrars that charge for these services.

1) Register365.com (Names.co.uk and related registrars)

"Once you press proceed, you will be required to pay a £10 +VAT administration fee in order for us to process the request. Once payment is confirmed, your domain will be unlocked, and our Domain Administration Specialists will send out the Authorisation Code for your domain. You must then pass this on to your new Registrar in order for them to take control of the domain name."

2) Gandi.net

Aside from the outrageous registration prices, they also charge for a simple account push!! Prices depend on TLD.

.com push costs 7,02 € incl. tax!

I think that just the uk site of register365 is charging a fee for transfer...I have transfered around 40 domains away from them and I have never paid any transfer fee. My transfer control panel looks like this:

Transfer a com/net/org/biz/info/mobi etc... away from Register365

The domain name above is currently locked by default by Register365. This prevents unauthorised or fraudulent transfers occurring. Transferring away will require your domain name to be un-locked for a period of 60 days which we call a '60 Day Transfer Window'.

Please enter a valid e-mail address below. We will then unlock the domain name (enabling it to be transferred) and open a 60 day transfer window. We will send the authorisation code to the valid email address you provide. You will need to give this code to your new provider in order for them to complete the transfer.

If the domain name has still not been transferred away from Register365 after 60 days, we will automatically re-lock the domain name again to secure it against unauthorised or fraudulent transfers.

PLEASE NOTE: If you choose to proceed, any private registration service on this domain name will be disabled and your details will be visible in the public whois database.
