I registered for a domain around two hours hour ago and because of their time taken for your manual payment verification, the domain was taken by someone else a couple of minutes ago. THEY DID NOT EVEN LOCK THE DOMAIN AFTER I PURCHASED !!

I don't care about the money but I want that particular domain.

NamePros peeps what to do on this? Report to ICANN explaining the situation, make them go absolute VIRAL on social media so no one uses them anymore?

Please guide me.

Please don't say I should have done my diligence before or next time use well known host. If I had done that I would not be in this situation and names.co.uk ,,, how can any registrar with such domain name be such incompetent?

I have the receipt from my bank if needed. Please help me on this matter.

Is it possible that the domain was registered by somebody else first ?
If you had to wait for payment verification. Maybe another person had to do the same, before you.

So maybe it was showing as available but wasn't, and/or you were not first in line.

This does make sense, if someone tried to buy the name 10 minutes before you, and their payment method was being verified and verfication completed before you and they got the name. If you checked WHOIS it would still show the name as being available as this can 24hrs or even longer to show a new registrant in the WHOIS.

There loads of registrars that have a payment verification process when you first sign up, its just a once off and then you dont do it again. Was this the first domain you registered with Name.co.uk?

Domains dont get "locked" while a payment method is being verified. From my experience, payment verification has to be done and completed when you open an account and before registering any names. Registrars will only make a name unavailable because you have registered it and paid for it.

This was 2nd domain. They verify with all accounts. And no porkbun, namesilo, namecheap do not have such manual verification even for first timers. Me and my clients know this well.

I was EXCITED about this domain so I for over 30 mins at whois.com and who.is ... For over 30 mins it was available so yeah it was not taken when I registered.

When I had my 1st domain at names.co.uk they did the same manual thing.

You are not getting it, if someone tried just before you, say 10 minutes, 1 hr or 2hrs, the WHOIS can and often does remain unchanged for 24hrs or more, WHOIS means nothing in this case. Someone certainly could have registered it just before you and they had to have their payment verified too. You can argue all you want, it certainly is possible.

Similar types of glitches happen at Godaddy all the time, when I say similar, I mean people think they have a great name, they pay for it and then find out they dont own the name.....you just have to deal with it. A thread on here wont do anything, there are "complaint" threads on every registrar you can think of on here.

It's just bad luck and bad choice of registrar. Have you paid by credit card?

Not much use this time. But in future, if something like this happens again. Double up and register with another registrar as well. Whoever doesn't manage to register the domain for you, will refund you.

One thing you could also check is the time on the whois record, to see when it was registered.
That might tell you if in fact somebody registered it before you tried.

What's front runners?
Front runner are bots or people that sit looking at the names typed into searches in attempt to buy them but didn't pay at time they are generally watching searches a few hours behind and will buy anything that they feel of value you left behind.

if you're going to .co.uk, try 123-reg, they were good at least to me

When I'm that committed to registering a domain I check the whois diligently until it shows as registered by me. Refreshing over and over.

If I had noticed that they hadn't registered it straight away I would have gone to another registrar immediately.

As for hating on names.co.uk, it doesn't sound like they have done much wrong, this is the name of the game. Names get registered. They shouldn't need to "be FORCED to quit this business.". I realise you're a bit annoyed by but threatening them with social media backlash and lawyering up really is some entitled snowflakery. Bad form and unprofessional.

If you didn't get the name then it's negligence on your part not theirs.

Totally.

Now let's make everybody around be forced to quit their businesses, only because some n00bs don't bother to at least learn their industry rules and practices but instead are writhing in entitled snowflakery hysterics.
