I haven't found namecheap to be any cheaper. The best code I've found for them still gets me on par with the godaddy codes. Around $12 or $13CAD.

If Godaddy and Namecheap .com prices are almost the same, use Godaddy and then by January transfer it to namecheap on the "moveYourDomainDay" for $3.98.
